For some strange reason, this video from YouTube always seems to invoke an emotional response for me. I guess I'm either getting old(er) or kinda look at what seems to be happening in this old world and not liking what I see. I use it as a pick-me up when the weather and the world seem gloomy. Thought it would be nice to share this with those of you on this forum that may feel the same on a rainy day.

Enjoy,

Gary cool

What FUN! Good production values on top of a really cute premise.

I FEEL BETTER, NOW! What fun it would be to play that style for an hour or so! Love to play slap bass!

I'd even play uke (UGH)on that one!

Thanks, Gary!

This song (not this arrangment), was heard quite often on British TV a few years ago. It was the signature tune of a popular comedy duo called Morecambe and Wise.

Morecambe & Wise tributes

When Eric Morecambe died in 1984 so closely associated were the pair with the song that it was the title of the Bring Me Sunshine tribute show at the London Palladium held in his memory. Ten years later, the BBC ran another 3-part tribute, also titled Bring Me Sunshine.

Lyrics to the song were also read at Morecambe's funeral by Ernie Wise.[7] Wise went on to declare it his favourite song during his appearance on the BBC radio programme, Desert Island Discs in Oct 1990.[8] On the same program three months later, the song was also a choice of jazz singer Adelaide Hall.[9] It has also been used for the title of several books about the pair.

It is interesting to note that when Morecambe & Wise defected from the BBC to Thames Television in 1978, directly after their record-breaking Christmas Special the previous year, the signature tune was dropped. It was however used in later installments of these shows.

Great tune! Do you perform that one at your senior gigs? I bet they would like it.

They say, "Let a smile be your umbrella."

This is definitely an "umbrella" song.

Thanks for posting it, Gary.

Here are a couple of photos I took in Eric Morecambe's "adopted" UK town town of Morecambe. The words in his plaque are just for us!

Yes, I've been performing this song for a couple years now, and yes, the senior audiences love it. And, so do the not so senior audiences, folks in their 40s enjoy it as well. I'm not at the keyboard right now, but if I recall, the Jump-Jive style of Yamaha's is what I use for the fast segment of the song.

Cheers,

Gary cool
