For some strange reason, this video from YouTube always seems to invoke an emotional response for me. I guess I'm either getting old(er) or kinda look at what seems to be happening in this old world and not liking what I see. I use it as a pick-me up when the weather and the world seem gloomy. Thought it would be nice to share this with those of you on this forum that may feel the same on a rainy day.

Enjoy,

Gary cool

What FUN! Good production values on top of a really cute premise.

I FEEL BETTER, NOW! What fun it would be to play that style for an hour or so! Love to play slap bass!

I'd even play uke (UGH)on that one!

Thanks, Gary!

This song (not this arrangment), was heard quite often on British TV a few years ago. It was the signature tune of a popular comedy duo called Morecambe and Wise.

Morecambe & Wise tributes

When Eric Morecambe died in 1984 so closely associated were the pair with the song that it was the title of the Bring Me Sunshine tribute show at the London Palladium held in his memory. Ten years later, the BBC ran another 3-part tribute, also titled Bring Me Sunshine.

Lyrics to the song were also read at Morecambe's funeral by Ernie Wise.[7] Wise went on to declare it his favourite song during his appearance on the BBC radio programme, Desert Island Discs in Oct 1990.[8] On the same program three months later, the song was also a choice of jazz singer Adelaide Hall.[9] It has also been used for the title of several books about the pair.

It is interesting to note that when Morecambe & Wise defected from the BBC to Thames Television in 1978, directly after their record-breaking Christmas Special the previous year, the signature tune was dropped. It was however used in later installments of these shows.

Great tune! Do you perform that one at your senior gigs? I bet they would like it.

They say, "Let a smile be your umbrella."

This is definitely an "umbrella" song.

Thanks for posting it, Gary.

Here are a couple of photos I took in Eric Morecambe's "adopted" UK town town of Morecambe. The words in his plaque are just for us!

Yes, I've been performing this song for a couple years now, and yes, the senior audiences love it. And, so do the not so senior audiences, folks in their 40s enjoy it as well. I'm not at the keyboard right now, but if I recall, the Jump-Jive style of Yamaha's is what I use for the fast segment of the song.

Cheers,

Gary cool

It got its first play on MY playlist last Saturday as the program opener and I must say it had people swaying and tapping their feet and got a nice round of applause at the end of the song ...
Even the staff members were reacting to it ...

Thanks again, Gary ...

Tony, I'm impressed you learned it so quick. I've been working on it too and hope have it ready for a NH gig next week. BTW, what styles are you guys using and what keys are you singing in? Anyways thanks for sharing this song with us Gary. It's always fun to learn new material.

Paul, I kick it off with a nice swing style with a tempo of about 100, using the first variation and a piano on the right hand. I put this into the first registration for this particular song. Then I hit a break and the stop button, do the transition vocals, and hit the second registration which kicks off with a break and into the fourth variation of the jump-jive style with a tempo of 200 and a growl sax for the right hand voice. I sing it in "D", but that's because it suits my voice ranges best. Use the vocal and playing chord that is most comfortable for your vocal range.

Hope this helps,

Gary cool

Paul I did a google search for the lyrics and chords and found a site where I could transpose it into my key... I sing it in the key of F ... for the first time playing it I kept it simple and just used a shuffle style with the same tempo all the way through ...

Paul ... here is a site where you can transpose the chords
http://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/w/willie_nelson/bring_me_sunshine_crd.htm
... the only 'problem' I have with some of these sites is that they do not show 'flat' keys, only 'sharp' keys, so Bb is written as A#, etc. ... not sure of the reason for that but perhaps it has something to do with the fact that these sites are primarily for guitar players ...

Thanks so much Tony. Believe it or not I figured it out by ear (I usually use charts) Anyways, I've been playing the slow section in F and the fast section in G. The version that Gary posted is in Bb and modulates to C. I will look up that chart though in case my memory ever fails me ( which is quite likely)

I find that modulating up to the next key works very well to 'lift' a song especially in songs that may have a relatively simple chords progression ... I do this in songs like:
Cab Driver
My Darling Clementine (Bobby darin version)
L-O-V-E (Nat King Cole)
Michael Row The Boat Ashore
If I Had A Hammer
Mack The Knife (OF COURSE)... and others ...

Tony, Did you steal my song list again? wink Yep, modulating up a half step or more always puts more into those songs, and others as well. There's a lot of country songs that I do the same with, which provides the simplest songs with lots of pizazz and keep them interesting right until the end.

Cheers,

Gary cool
