Hello super critics, here is version one and two for your entertainment, I've not heard a comment from Diki or Fran re the drums and bass (Roland xv2020)

Col getting better all the time try roling off some low end Eq....and bring back the volume to sit in the mix not over power it. Its all about balance. hae you also tried to record the song multi-tracking doing the music first then Vocals over the top this would let you adjust vol/EQ separately on all tracks etc, then mix it down...headphone

Col as I looked at this (2) recording in my editor it's seems very over modulated Peaking in the RED throughout the song,...do you have any level indicator on your recording device that you can adjust also..?

Hi Donny

I recorded the song on seven individual tracks simultaneously (Zoom R16)

1 Lead Voice
2 High Harmony voice (1/3 up)
3 Higher Harmony voice (1/5 up)
4 Bass (Roland xv2020)
5 Drums (Roland vx2020)
6 Korg Pa600 lead (Right hand)
7 Korg Pa600 Acomp (Style Country Quickstep 174 BPM)

The drums (panned left) and bass (panned right) were sent to the xv2020 then to two mono tracks on the zoom.

The Pa600 Right hand (Panned left) and the accmp (panned right) out to two more mono tracks on the zoom.

The mic is fitted with a splitter cable one side to the zoom (Mono) the other side to the TC Voicelive Touch 2.

The Voicelive is set up to output two harmony voices one left and one right to separe tracks on the Zoom. The Lead voice is muted in the VH. All effects in the VH off (The effects in the VH are stereo so you get bleeding between the tracks if the are used, similarly the effects, for the same reason, in the Korg are turned off.

All voice's are including the instruments are recorded flat no effects, the effects are applied afterwards using Cubase.

The Mixing/Mastering is just a matter of taste and learning how to apply the multitude of effects available in Cubase, Compression, Limiting etc etc.

As far as singing over the music I'm only really playing chords with the left hand so it's really not a big deal. I may start over dubbing fills, strings etc as I am more familiar with the current set up.

The Zoom allows simultaneous recording of 8 tracks then a further 8 tracks for over dubbing. When I get round to it (so much to learn, so little time)

I'm awaiting delivery of a 49 key midi controller (keyboard), split into two zones and hooked up to the Korg to give me access to the three right hand voice's without messing about with buttons.
You can mute the right hand voices on the Pa600 and still play them via midi from the master keyboard.

Hope all is well with you and yours

computer

Kind Regards

Col

PS I thought I had got it a touch loud redface

Col.....keep up the great work, sounds like your having mucho fun dancers ....and that's what music creation is all about. Lord knows how many takes I will do on some of my recordings to hope to get it right in the end, but that's how we all learn. keys

Very nice Col, sounds great - number 3 that is!

I really like the harmony voices, they are very clean and crisp. And panned! wink

The third one was a very good use of VH.
