Today an elderly gentleman met me at the door when I arrive and handed me a print out which I have attached to this post. He wanted to know if I would play songs from this list.

Oh yes, he is 97 years old!!

Deane,

Post the list as a .doc or better yet a .txt file so we can open it. It's in a format that requires the latest version of MS Word to open, and I'm not going to buy a new one.

Thanks,

Gary cool

Well he sure had a great taste in music for me.

Lots of luck you sounding like Ella. LOL

Artistry in Rhythm - now there's a real challenge for the arranger.

Especially Stan Kenton's version - don't think there is any other.

Gary ... I am using Firefox and when I clicked on the link I got the box asking if I wanted to "OPEN with' or 'SAVE' the file ... 'OPEN with' showed the default as Windows Explorer ... I clicked OK and it opened ... it is actually an Excel file ... there are about 210 songs on the list ...

Eddie just sent me the list in MS Word. My copy of Excel is pretty old, therefore it wouldn't open. Keep in mind that my version of MS Office is 2000, so it's 13 years old. Hell, I can't remember when I was 13. wink

Thanks,

Gary cool

Hi Gary

Download the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack (It’s free) here and when installed you will be able to open all the new formats in Office 2000. (Just remember you will lose some of the features and the layouts may be a bit different)

Hope this helps

Bill

Good stuff - I counted at least 40 tunes that I know and perform before i got through the K's!
It could be my setlist for some venues.

I love the music of this era and know most of them; I play many of them. But I think the majority, excluding the up tempo big band stuff , are great for listening to in your easy chair, but are a bit too slow for live performance if you want to keep your audience awake. And many are just for female singers. Great stuff too soon forgotten though.

There are almost no songs that are too gender specific for me to perform. "Natural Woman" is one that I'd sing every night, if I were female - GREAT song. Carole King's musical is coming to BROADWAY this year - exciting!!!!!!!!!!!

Just about all the songs on his list are songs I play for my Senior Venues. I get a lot of requests for many of them. Not many ask for the Kenton stuff but a few have over the years. I'll try to find out what this mans background is.

Of course that is the perfect venue. You can really make some of their eyes light up when they hear a song they haven't heard in much too long.
