travlin'easy Senior Member Registered: 12/08/02 Posts: 15576 Loc: Forest Hill, MD USA	I had a drummer in the 70s, he was pretty damned good, if and when he decided to show up for the job, which sometimes wasn't the case. Additionally, he was way too loud for the restaurant jobs we had. I purchased a Roland, programmable, drum machine one day that really sounded great. I dumped the drummer the following day. No more problems with no shows, no more bull $hit excuses why he didn't show, no more problems with being too loud for the restaurant jobs. I guess if someone has a fixation for performing with a live drummer, then knock yourself out. I haven't needed one since the mid 1970s, and still don't. Has it ever occurred to any of us that, if we can only attract the worst players to work with us, what does that say about US? If only our drum machines, arrangers, sequencers could talk! jimlaing Member Registered: 09/24/02 Posts: 581 Loc: Raleigh, NC	I've been playing regularly with live drummers (and bass + guitar players) for 25+ years, as well as playing as being an arranger player (solo, and as part of a duo) for 15+ years ... never had a drummer "not show up" ... often they show up early, I guess 'cause they know they have plenty of gear to set up?! I enjoy playing with my live band (5pc) as wella as my solo and duo "arranger" gigs ... Each has its pros and cons and I enjoy both ... Until a few years ago we fished the lower reaches of Chesapeake Bay a couple dozen times a year aboard my boat. He no longer plays music, but he still catches a few fish now and then. Don't get to see him much anymore, I'm too busy playing music and sailing. And, Donny, No, I don't do this song, and probably wouldn't for any number of reasons.
