The first thing I tried when I got my Tyros 5 was the
Audio to Multi Pad link .
I recorded in my Tyros 5 a song in the Audio Recorder and
linked it to a Multi Pad . And YES .... it worked fine !!

And I am going to use it on stage .
After the concert I visited last sunday where I met some
old musical friends they asked me to join them as accordeon
and of course keyboardplayer .

The want to play with a new band playing Future Folk and they
remembered me as a 16 year old boy playing the accordeon in
a large Concert Hall ( I played Hungarian Music )
In this new Band we will use everything what is used in Music
today including songs out my Multi Pads , complete songs
and parts of songs .

One of the members of this new Band is a female German singer
she is a professional Singing-Mistress .
One of the other members is a professional Sax player , he is
also a good singer .
None of these musicians has a problem with the singer in the
Multi Pads no , on the contrary they enjoy it and like to use it.

I will use the Multi Pads of my Tyros 5 for everything what
is possible and that is quite a lot .

Three members of this new band will be semi-professional ,
two are professional .
We will play Folk in the traditional way and in a complete
new way .
The band will play also play my own compositions .
The world always changes that is why we will play new kinds
of music and old kinds of music .

About 50% of our music will be Instrumental Music and the
other 50% will be with vocals .

There is a great change that our female violin player also
will join us in the vocal parts .

As a 67 year old amateur musician because I choose another
profession it is an exiting step to go on stage again .

My advice to all musicians playing keyboards , use the
facilities your instrument has . We live in 2014 .

For me it is important that in music there is a good balance
between Instrumental Music and Music with Vocals .

The Tyros 5 is a perfect instrument to be a Musician in 2014 .
And so are other instruments of other factories .

Congratulations on getting your new Tyros 5.
Though a few American dealers here have one, they're for store demo only.
Unfortunately, American customers like myself are still anxiously waiting for ours to finally arrive later this month, hopefully before Christmas.

Even though I'm both a live singer & arranger keyboard musician,
I agree with deb that adding pre-recorded vocals along with live keyboard playing (and perhaps your live vocals too)
has the potential to raise arranger keyboard entertainment to a new level of appreciation and acceptance by audiences,
as is demonstrated at the following spots in the below Bert Smorenburg S950 video:

way . And most of the members gave their opinion in a
friendly way .

It was not a problem to me if someone did not agree with me.

The reason I came back to this forum was that I thought I
could ( with some other members) try to give this forum more
keyboard user technical information .

How to do things and exchanging new ideas .
But unfortunately there were some very insulting messages
that made make the decision to leave this forum as an active
member .
I will only be on this forum as a reader .

Seems an awfully expensive way to DJ, if you are still thinking about that hairbrained idea to have the vocals done by recordings, while you play along with them!

No offense, deb, but that IS the silliest thing I've heard in a long time. How about you go DO IT first, then come here and tell us how much the audience loves it?

I have to say that I do agree with DIKI on this silly idea.It's a nice tool for some stuff, but to actually perform that way there is really no point.Just put on a CD and you might as well pretend you are playing too.And I do love new technology and new stuff.
Just imagine doing just a simple wedding. Doesn't have to be anything high profile gig.Imagine people faces when they see you are not singing.To tell you the truth,where I come from I can't even imagine having DJ for a wedding.Anything short of a live music is not even a question.That is a first thing people ask."Who is Playing".And the wedding is only good if the music and party is good.Everything else(flowers,food...etc..)is going to be good if the music is good.

I believe the concept of triggering pre-recorded vocals via multi-pads is yet another live triggered tool to creatively enhance arranger keyboard performance.
I wouldn't do this for an entire show, but for a couple of select songs, it could really be a big hit.

I live in San Francisco where I'm always requested to perform "I Left My Heart In SF" (Tony Bennett), "SF Flowers In Your Hair" (Scott MacKenzie), and "Go West" (Village People/The Pet Shop Boys)
of which is universally recognized as sung by the above cited singers.

Hearing it sung by the original hit artist, yet me playing live
(piano) + auto accompaniment (drums & bass + strings) helps satisfy the audience's initial recognizable voice expectation, and then after 8 bars, I might introduce
my vocal rendition + play instrumental solos and then perhaps throw in some hints of the hit version singer's vocals (signature vocal rifts, etc) again to create a musical montage.

The ability to use multipads to trigger vocal audio to our arranger keyboard music can open up some interesting creative possibilities.
I've always wanted the opportunity to sing & play with some of the greatest singers & musicians of all time, so with 'vocal only' audio tracks now available commercially,
so perhaps now can "Play my Dream", or as Yamaha claims with Tyros4: "Hear the difference, play your dream"

Here's an example of how Dave Koz got to perform on his Sax with Dean Martin in 2007 (twelve years after Dean Martin's passing).
I heard him do this at a live concert and everyone in the audience loved it.

When a 'big star' does something like this at a concert the audience generally eats it up - I saw Paul Anka do something similar to "My Way" with a Frank Sinatra video and the audience loved it - BUT - that is much different than a OMB doing it ... perhaps used as Scott says - intermittently, maybe even in place of a vocal harmonizer - it MIGHT work, but IMHO, not as a full time gig ...

Now wouldn't it be awesome if the multipads could loop (so that you don't have to keep pressing it again and again like he does at 11:44), and if you could sync them to beat so that if you are a fraction late or early you don't have to cancel the multipad and ruin your performance?

Can we get enough people to ask Yamaha to add these features? Shouldn't take more than 5 lines of programing...
