Well I've got myself an Apple ipad and loaded it up with this App - Galileo - Professional Organ Emulator for the iPad.
Now all I've got to work out is how to midi connect the ipad to the KN7000 and I should have a whole new set of organ sounds to play with using my keyboard... Anyone got into this area and can offer any pearls of wisdom?

I think you will need a MIDI interface for the iPad like iConnectMIDI1 for iOS devices.

Ok - I've got the midi interface and linked it all up but can't get my KN7000 to play the galileo organ on the i-pad...?

Hi Roger

You will need to set your Technics Midi Out to on, and match the channels to the organ software on your iPad.

Also note that Midi does not carry audio, only Midi Data, therefore you will need to connect the audio out of the iPad to the audio in of the Technics.

Hope this helps

Bill

Hi Roger, just been looking at your problem, in my days in retail customer support with Yamaha and Technics products the problems with midi and interface connections was quite common.I have looked at the organ app.and the specs of the KN7 I have a few questions to see if I can figure out what is needed.
1-what type of interface connection are you using?(midi to usb adapter-ipad connector)??
2-How are you connecting the audio output of the ipad?
3-have you made a complete back-up of the KN7 settings so you have a safety net when you start experimenting with the KN's complex midi patches.(give me the good old days of 1 channel at a time)
The first thing to do is after a full back-up of the KN go into the control panel and initial the midi settings,or use the reset disc to reset the midi to factory settings.Next set the R1 output to ch 1,then test to see if you get any sounds??
If the app is set to default general organ channels (the older standards)upper manual ch1,lower manual to ch2, and pedals to ch3 you may have to reset these to upper ch1,lower ch3 so as to match the initial settings of the KN which is R1 ch1,R2 ch2 and left(lower) ch3.
Hope this helps, let me now how you get on? .There may be a way to do this all via USB. both midi and audio but still looking at this option.

Regards John.

Hi John - to answer your questions :-
1) Apple lightning to USB adaptor plus USB to midi cable lead keyboard adaptor converter.
2) Hopefully straight out of the Ipad but operated from the KN7000.
3) Midi settings are at Initial as I have never used them before. Not sure how I would do a complete back-up of all my settings anyway...
Tha App - Galileo Organ by Yonac is absolutely fascinating and very wide ranging in it's facilities/options and if you have an Ipad it's very cheap to download at the moment.

Hi again John and others
Two weeks on and still no success despite drinking in and acting on all the advice given.
I'm beginning to think that the KN7000 - now 10 years old - may not be able to speak to a modern apple ipad and its Apps...there may be a 'language' differential...

That is strange as I have Galileo working on my controller set to ch 1, and using iRig Midi as an interface.

Hello Roger,

I've been thinking of using an Ipad for my sheet music as it would save a great deal of hassle when playing out. However, on making various enquiries, most people I spoke with advised me not to go for an Apple Ipad as you are restricted to using their Apps/software which can only be bought from them. Whereas if I buy a Pad that uses the Android system, not only do they have hundreds of free Apps but they can be used with almost every other Pad in the market today.

As you have an Ipad, I'm wondering whether this could be your problem. As you say, the KN7 is now 10 years old and maybe a conversion of some sort is needed before it'll work with anything modern such as the Ipad. (similar to the Technic styles that have been converted for use on other keyboards).

Just a thought!

Audrey

Bernie - you say that you've got Galileo working on your controller - what is that instrument and have you tried using it with your KN7000?

Roger Just been spending a few nights with my nose in Alec's fantastic book "Getting the most from your KN7000" if you read this in light of what you are trying to do,it appears that if you have the correct drivers you should be able to use just the USB. cable as it is possible to send MIDI and AUDIO both ways down the usb cable which would allow midi control from the KN down the usb and let the audio from your pad to return to the KN7000 as a line in and playing through the KN speakers. It looks as if you will need to load your pad with the drivers from the original CD rom for the KN or if this is not possible try getting generic drivers that will allow to set up midi and audio.

Best regards John.
P.S. perhaps technicsplayer may have an opinion?

Hi John - many thanks for all that 'nose diving' - yes I've got to get an appropriate driver into my ipad. I've got a CD copy of Alec's great book and will have a read for myself too...many thanks.

Sorry for the delay in answering, but I just now tried the KN7000 with the Galileo using iRigMidi. It fired right up with the midi cable to the midi out.

Icidentally Bernie - next time you hook up would you mind having a look at what the midi settings are on your kn7000 - there's about 8 different sets of settings - sorry to be a nuisance...thanks.

No problem, as the complexity of the KN midi is beyond me. However, with the ORGAN PRESET, go to PARTS on the midi menu. Here you choose which part you want on, and change from off to channel 1(one). Switch LOCAL off or not.

Be sure the iRIGmidi is on and blinking. I have not worked with Galileo yet, but experienced hung notes for some reason, I finally found that the UP,LOW,PEDAL area turned off the note.

It is a great app. Maybe several of us can work together to learn it better.

Seems a great idea Bernie as my Kn7000 doesn't want to connect with my Galileo on my ipad at all...must be something to do with the settings on my KN7000 because it does work with other keyboards and organs...
