A few weeks ago Don Mason posted a link to "Mary Did You Know" which is among the most beautiful songs I've heard in years. I wasn't sure if I could perform it at all, let alone make it sound reasonably good. The first time I performed it for an audience I was scared to death that I would blow it - big time. I was wrong. My wife and daughter love my rendition, and my audiences have been quite positive in their response. These are the kind of things that have kept me going for these many decades.

I did the following recording using the S-950s onboard Audio Recorder, the Crown CM-311A headset mic, and the Movie Ballad Style. I look forward to any and all constructive criticism from the good folks on this forum.

Mary Did You Know

Gary...Gary....Gary!!!

Great recording...I thought that was the best S950 recording I have heard on SZ..

A suggestion.... I never played this, but listening to your arrangement....I wanted to hear a passing tone, or build up chord progression in a couple spots..maybe a more complex chord or voicing....and I think it would have been interesting with a modulation before closing out the song..

You may want to try these changes..see if it works for you...

Gary, beautifully fitting 'Movie Ballad' Style & superb vocals by you . . .
Convincingly believable story telling which imo is the key to a fine singer. clap

Thanks everyone. I tend to get somewhat emotional when performing this particular song, which also makes it difficult for me to sing. I thought about comping with some right hand strings, but every time I tried I found it increasingly difficult, I think because of the story the lyrics portray.

Thanks Fran for the advice, and I'll give it a try on the job this evening. I value your input on things of this nature and do my best to implement them without messing up.
