Another of my heroes is gone. Had the privilege of opening a show for him years ago. He was nice to me.

Ray Price has as long as I can remember been one of my top 3 admired singers of all time so the news today of his passing is especially personal and sad. In addition to owning his complete CD box set collection and videos from the early 50's to present, I even had the opportunity to see him perform live with the Cherokee Cowboys several years ago. Price's smooth understated vocal phrasing IMHO rivals The best out there ever, including Jim Reeves and Frank Sinatra.
RIP Mr Price. violin

I became aquainted with Ray Price with his songs For the Good Times, and I Won't Mention It Again. At that point in his life he reminded me of a country Frank Sinatra. He had that nice, classy, mellow sound. I saw him live in Toronto in 1972. Great music.

Seems USA Today was in error. Yesterday Ray had returned to his ranch in East Texas to have Hospice care. Even his son said on Facebook that he had died. He has Pancreatic cancer that has spread to other organs and treatment is no longer effective.
I hope he is at peace.

A class act all the way. He came to Lexington frequently and stayed at the hotel I played. I learned "I Won't Mention It Again" from him. He commented on the importance of passing chords and was always gracious.

Always acted with class, humor and compassion; well deserving of the success he enjoyed.

Yes, he is at peace now. I wonder if he got to read all the acclamations that were results of the pre-mature obituaries.
I did a tribute to him last night, including:
For The Good Times
Help Me Make It Through the Night.
You're the Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me
Don't You Ever Get Tired Of Hurting Me
City Lights
Night Life
I Won't Mention It Again
Crazy Arms
Burning Memories
Born To Lose
Heart Over Mind
The six or so that are shuffles I put into a medley. At closing I dedicated Night Life to the waiters and staff who work at night, then closed with For The Good Times.
It was well received.
Thanks Ray!
