Tyros 5 is the first 76 note keyboard I have owned. 61 note Tyros's first key is C1. The 76 key versions first note is E0. Is this a standard or does it vary among different manufacturers? It never occurred to me that my new keyboard's first note wouldn't be a C. I'm sure I'll get used to it but my left hand playing chords is missing many since I am used to C being the first key. Unless I change my usual chord inversions I really don't gain much in the upper keys playing styles as I do. Just wondering................. -charley

I have no plans on exchanging it. I was just wondering if all 61 and 76 note keyboards have the same note range. -charley

Unfortunately, Charlie, they're all the same. I never thought that was a good idea, but what the Hell do I know?

Charlie ..a 76 key is designed for players...the low E on a standard bass guitar...is the low key on a 76..

Even if you ignore the first 3/4 octave ..you have more range for right hand chords and lines..

Now an 88 is a bit of waste for me...I don't think the lowest and highest would ever wear out..

Charlie, try piano mode..you might find you like the 76 keys..

Cant you shift the splitpoint to the left?

And as Fran said... those extra 15 keys are most welcome if you play in Piano mode...

Its something i miss on todays keyboards... allredy 20 years ago on my GEM WX2, i could set my free splitpoints, not only gving me more freedom, but also allowing me to layer up to 16 sounds on my keybaord each with its own range (or split)

a 76 keys board could be perfect to have 2 splits, allowing you to have 2 different sounds for your right hand...

Most 76's start at the low E. As Fran said, perfect if you do LH bass.

There's somewhat of a shift towards 73's in many stage keyboards, starting at the low F or even low A (Krome73). But Korg's Kronos 73 starts on the E. Go figure!

This sort of emulates the Rhodes range, though why they messed with the Rhodes's low E beats me. Wurlitzer EP's started on the A, and were 63's.

On the whole, the 76 seems something of a dying format, which I can't fathom to save my life. Why would anyone want LESS than 76? At least Yamaha still do their TOTL WS's in the traditional 61, 76 and 88 ranges, with the 76 starting at low E.

Not really Diki... the 76 is making a strong comeback these days... never before where there this many TOTL arrangers avaialble in both 61 and 76 format..

And Korg allready indicated that choosing for 73 weighted keys on Kronos was a lesson.. they will stick to 76 keys in the future ..
