Buying freeze on for me as far as musical equipment goes, but after April my pension will increase to the point where I can look at another addition, probably Casio PK-5S as it will fulfill two roles...(1) An 88-note weighted action controller with four zones. (2) A fully programmable synth with a different tone generator than what is in what I already have in the Tyros4.
Right now, all my funds are needed for keeping my car in shape. At 167,000 km I need to change Timing Belt and water pump on my 2002 Accord SE 4 cylinder VTEC (150 hp.)...Current mileage is approximately 155,000 km so I have a bit of leeway.
If the timing belt breaks it can completely ruin the engine...the water pump is usually changed while the front of the motor is apart.
The car is otherwise in great shape having just passed the required by law (every two years) Vehicle Inspection.
After that's done I can focus on getting additional music gear.
Ian

Just got home from today's double, Carol is fixing Crab Cakes for dinner, and I have just mixed a green coconut margaratta. Life is good, but damned I'm tired. Must be old age catching up with me, but I think I'm gonna stop booking doubles and triples. Gary

No Quads for me. I don't want to be the richest musician in the cemetery. I would much rather do one job a day, be shot in the back of the head by a jealous husband, while leaping from a second story window with my trousers down around my ankles and a 19-year-old beauty queen screaming "Don't leave me - Don't leave me, Gary." Lightness and piano action are worlds apart. A solid, tight keyset is used by all the manufacturers on their HIGH end stuff, so why don't they think it's important for all players ... Hmmmm? Piano action has nothing to do with synth action, and a good synth action has nothing in common with ANY PSR product ever made. (with the exception of he 9000Pro, but I'm not 100% sure if it was or was not part of the PSR family - it's not printed on the KB as such)
I hardly ever play acoustic pianos, but even in my Rhodes days .... the heavier action was part of the expressiveness. Today's PSR action is lacking in that area - sure, the sound engine sounds great, and all the bells and whistles are made to perform well .... it's just the touch that drives me nuts. No solid landing at the end of the key stroke - no firm feel under my fingers - skinny keys .... too many things to cite. Fact remains - aw ... who am I kidding ... there are no facts here - just opinions. Mine is that Yamaha is cheating it's MOTR buyers big time. Until they make a keyboard that feels as good as their high end stuff (and HAS speakers) - I will not be using their product. one players love is another players dislike... we all play differently, example I dont like pedals .. some others do...so what? I dont like BOSe systems , some love em, so what?.......At the end of the day it bought closing your eyes and HEARING what it sounds like no matter what instrument & gear you use to achieve that. There are NO Rules in music.

Fact of the matter is, were Yamaha to upgrade their PSR series with the action from their less expensive WS brethren, absolutely no-one would complain...
Sadly, as has been demonstrated time after time, for some unknown reason, Yamaha users will defend to the last every questionable decision Yamaha take, until the day that Yamaha rectify it, then they will spend the remaining time trying to pretend that they had never said that what they used to have was perfect (and by definition, what they now have no longer is!).
Add to this that the main 'defenders' of this appalling action are players that freely admit they don't play conventionally, if well at all. But, I suppose if you want to take an opinion seriously about an action, what harm is there listening to those who claim poor playing skills?! LOL But agreeing with them?
Take them seriously, who knows..? Yamaha might actually think that the vast majority of arranger players really DO prefer such an excremental action. I guess it's a good thing that they don't take such opinions seriously when making workstations... or their TOTL arrangers!
