I have several friends that lived on the big island, all moved back to this part of the world for various reasons. One, who was also a forum member, now lives in the Florida Panhandle area and sells real estate there. Though I've been to many Pacific countries, I must say it's one of the very few places in the world I've not seen, but would love to visit one day. Gary

Climb aboard the the sailboat with me next fall and you'll see a whole lot of the south east U.S. coast and maybe the Bahamas and Dry Tortugas. Now that would be braggin rights for you, Don. Currently, it's snowing here, few patches of blue sky as well, temperature outdoors is just 24 degrees and supposed to drop to 10 tonight. Gary

Hi rosetree. Yup, Edmonton at, wait for it, 53.427512N - well, that just about pinpoints the birdbath in the garden:). I took the liberty of looking up North-Rhine and see that you are only marginally south of me at, wait for it, 51.433237N. Vast difference in climate, though. I remember my old geography teacher saying how extremes of climate always occurred in the midddle of a landmass. She was certainly right about that in my case. Yes, we are strongly favoured by the gulf stream. Actually, the climate in northwest Germany is very similar to Vancouver or the lower Frazer valley, nearly same averages for winter and summer; but Vancouver is even slightly milder in winter due to the protection from the coast mountains. In Germany we sometimes get air from Northern Russia, and there is no mountain chain in between, so once in 20 years it can get down to about -22C (-8F) (which probably won't shock you).
