Last time everybody was disappointed after the pre-NAMM countdown. I don't expect too much. ToTL arranger is unlikely in view of the dissolution of Roland Europe. An updated BK-7m would be great. Regarding synths, maybe a successor of the Juno Gi?

TBH, all I'm hoping for from Roland is maybe some updated iPad apps, and MAYBE the first of the promised Expansion Sound Packs for the BK-9. And even that, I'd be surprised if it isn't primarily something for more 'ethnic' areas - Balkan, Middle Eastern, that kind of thing.

What I'd REALLY like to see is more SuperNatural sounds, with maybe some better programming on them (I think Roland nailed the guitars, but the horns are still a bit 'beta', IMO - not bad, but not quite up to Yamaha's SA2, yet).

The other BK-s could definitely use some updates, so they can use the BK-9's 'Performance Editor' app... Plus it would be nice to see some of the BK-9's updated OS features on them, like the Dynamic Arranger and Mark/Jump for SMF's.

But with Roland's Arranger Division still probably in a rebuilding phase (after production was yanked from Italy and sent to China), I would be unsurprised to see nothing from them for the arranger player.

The scuttlebutt over on the Roland Clan Forum is that it is going to be an upscale version of the BK-9. Personally, I'm not making any bets.

Maybe vocal harmonizer, big color touch screen, FC 5-capable. . . that will work.

BK-9 already is FC-7 compatible...

You know, maybe Roland is being tight lipped because there isn't anything to be loose lipped about? LOL

I think Roland considers their BK9 their top of the line arranger..

They moved away from TOTL and full fledged workstations a few years ago, and i do not see any reason for them to turn back, their keys department is making losses and their guitar stuff and PC stuff is making thier profit..

If you read the business reports for investors on roland.com, they have been in the loss area for several years and they try to get out of it by addressing the lower/medium price segment; a flagship TOTL or synthesizer workstation would be too risky in economic terms, I guess, particularly as they are always emphasizing the worldwide crisis and the consumers' reduced buying power.

I'm thinking a logical move for Roland would be the BK9 in a home piano type case with built in speakers. They could use the same board to cover two customer bases.
I believe I read somewhere, maybe here, that they also had a new sound system coming out.
Anyway I'm happy and spending lots of time combing through my presets and re-editing them. Plenty there already in the BK9 to keep me busy.

You just can't win, can you? rolleyes

Roland brings out TOTL arrangers, everyone bitches that they are too big, too heavy, no-one needs a big 76, yada, yada, yada...

Now Yamaha have a too big, too heavy 76, everyone is wondering where Roland's too big, too heavy 76 has gone! rotf2

Fact of the matter is, barely a single poster here asking about a Roland TOTL would actually buy one. If you haven't already bought a BK-9, you aren't going to buy a heavier, more expensive one!

Might buy a more expensive one, but not a beast (in weight) like the G70!
I assume BK9 doesn't work with Android tablet, or at least there are no apps for it.

What I find strange is nearly all the poll partakers in the 61 vs 76 note arranger future availability, who screamed for a middle to light weight 76 arranger, have not purchased either a mid weight Tyros5-76 or the lighter, more affordable, but nearly equally well equipped, Roland Bk-9.

Sure, we can allow for some people's financial circumstances changing since the poll, and those who bought Audya and Korg PA3Xpro-76, but it seems the majority who voted for the 76'er instead of 61 have dropped out of sight.

It's becoming obvious that the difference between "wanting" and actually "getting" is bigger than first realized.

I don't think it was anything inherently wrong with the BK-9...it's a great bang for the buck and seems to have all the goods necessary for a successful MOTL arranger.

I feel that most of those in the poll who expressed interest in the availability of a 76 note reasonably lightweight arranger, weren't interested enough to follow through and actually buy one.

Get an Ipad for the BK9. I beleive that's why Roland left it off. Keep costs down.
Have you ever played one? Maybe I'm missing something but what do you need one for ? Programming ? Again get an IPad. The only drawback I have is getting to a new Style while finishing another. I don't like the Wheel that much. Other than that I'm too busy playing / singing to be making changes on a screen.

I'd be very surprised to see anything TOTL in the arranger dept for Roland. I think the BK-9 is where Roland is going to sit for a while.

What wouldn't surprise me though is if Roland announces a new WorkStation. Roland is in DIRE need of a new TOTL workstation to compete with what's out there right now. The Fantom G series is in need of a refresh.

That's just an uber expensive VA synth with some SN voices and bread and butter sounds thrown in. Granted it's a sonic beast when it comes to tweaking, but certainly not a replacement for the G series.
