Dont you prefer being in controll? Ie deciding for yourself if you want this, or not? I know enough syles with a piano track, that sound still great when you play solo piano on top of that...

Just use the slider (set to style parts volume) by hand if you want to mute a track, gives you full controll..

I guess I was thinking about the Intelligent Arranger on Audya. The keyboard can read what you are playing and learns what you are doing, then adds riffs, drum accents, etc. to it as the style plays. Once you start playing a solo, these parts are automatically muted to prevent sounding too busy.
However, if they can do all that, it would seem to be really easy to do what Diki is talking about and mute Grand Piano (for example) when you play a ride using the same Grand Piano voice.
I'll bet AJ could make it do that!

I almost forgot to comment on the great performance by Rico! Thanks so much for sharing your talent!

Speaking for myself, it took me about a year before I was able to sing while playing (accordion). Then another year, before I was able to put in “fills” and do good “backing arrangements” on the spot. Than another year to learn to play an arranger…..horizontal keyboard and left hand chord formation! Also another year before I could sing comfortably with it. Then an additional year to learn the piano (the horizontal keyboard and putting two hands together was confusing for me).

I was always a good musician, but...a SLOW learner! I’m wondering how many of you had the same problems with singing and playing at the same time? Or switching keyboard instruments?

The Tyros4's style part on/off screen has icons for each instrument (and a light that comes on under it when it's being played)...a bit helpful, for sure...if I can remember to shut that part off.

What I also have done with some styles, and instead of replacing the string/synth pads, is to turn up (volume) those particular parts, rather than use a pad/string sound in my left hand which tends sometimes to sound too dense and/or muddy.

Quite often these style pad parts default at a volume a bit too low for my liking. Once I get a mix that works, I'll re-program and store the style with those settings.

Now that our instruments have basically unlimited storage, and, if you don't mind doing a little more planning ahead, the shutting off of style parts can be accomplished even easier by programming a set of eight registrations to accomplish that function for that particular style and/or song.

I haven't done a lot of lead singing, but I've generally sung harmony quite often in a group.

I tend to treat it like it's choreography between my hand movements on the keys and the words/lines I'm singing, and after performing the tunes enough times, it becomes second nature.

Similar sort of thing on a Korg, Ian. Just touch the mute button on individual tracks on the mixer screen - or pull back on a slider.

Playing and singing, I got thrown in at the deep end when our singer didn't show up one night and the song binder was stuck in front of me. Took to it like a duck to water. That's over 45 years ago and I've never looked back.

That's about what happened to me. Singer didn't show and we wanted to get paid. I was pretty bad. I'm less bad now.
I have learned to fool some people but have no illusions of being more than competent!

I don't imagine a feature like this wouldn't have an on/off control. But when you are improvising (sure, know exactly what you are doing, easy enough to do this with OTS or whatever), you simply don't KNOW what the next sound is.

But I see it as simpler than selecting the sound, then looking at the Style Mixer to see if a similar sound is being used, figure out what track it is on, then have to go and pull down that fader (and put it back exactly where it was when you select the next sound).

Simplicity is what we arranger players want, isn't it? LOL
