I love Tony but truth be told, he's not in the same league with Joey D. Tony is an old-school 'funk' organ player in the McDuff, McGriff, Earland, etc. tradition, and does it as well as anyone, but he doesn't have the versatility or the technical skills of Joey D. From all accounts he's a super person and if you like this type of 'funk' jazz organ (I do - in fact, it's my preferred style for both listening and playing) you may very well prefer Tony to Joey. I like them both. Tony is more 'organic' or 'soulful' or 'raw' or 'blusey' in his approach to playing (although Joey is no slouch in this department either), but Joey just has a bigger skill set - in fact, a BIGGER everything . Not a knock on Tony and in fact, I wouldn't miss a chance to see EITHER of them live. JMO, of course. chas
