I like Tony's playing...very recognizable style, with lots of feeling.

That B-3 sounds some good.

IMHO I think Tony's the best. Tasteful and he "plays" the instrument totally. Not knockin Joey D , he's a total monster but I prefer Tony. Nice guy too, very approachable and generous with his knowledge.
I won an XK3 from him in a contest to see who could pick out the New digital B3 from the original tonewheel A100 on one of his CD's. I wanted to go to Ohio to meet him and pick it up but he had it drop shipped to me. Sorry to say I could never do it justice the way he could.

I love Tony but truth be told, he's not in the same league with Joey D. Tony is an old-school 'funk' organ player in the McDuff, McGriff, Earland, etc. tradition, and does it as well as anyone, but he doesn't have the versatility or the technical skills of Joey D. From all accounts he's a super person and if you like this type of 'funk' jazz organ (I do - in fact, it's my preferred style for both listening and playing) you may very well prefer Tony to Joey. I like them both. Tony is more 'organic' or 'soulful' or 'raw' or 'blusey' in his approach to playing (although Joey is no slouch in this department either), but Joey just has a bigger skill set - in fact, a BIGGER everything smile smile. Not a knock on Tony and in fact, I wouldn't miss a chance to see EITHER of them live. JMO, of course.

Way back when I was playing organ, in the 60's, Jimmy Smith was my hero.

I had a record of him playing Summertime and I tried to learn it lick for lick. Never got there!

Jimmy Smith is one of my heroes, too. The first jazz album I ever bought was "Back At the Chicken Shack". Stanley Turrentine and Jimmy smith made a wonderful pair on that album.

Tony's great! He does a gig in Nashville the evenings he works summer Namm. He knew my friend Winston Walls.

Chas is right. Tony plays with a lot of feeling and soul, but is not the trained keyboardist Joey is.

Different strokes. I prefer to play Monaco (and have), but listen to Joey.
