Thank you for the comments on first thread, I didn't answer because listening to the recording I wasn't that happy sooo I've re-done it. I have left the old recording up so if you wouldn't mind comparing I would be grateful.

This one faster and two semi-tones higher also a different backing more like the original.

Col I have to say I enjoyed your first recording much better.
use the wind screen also & back off the mic about a foot for condenser.

Me I also prefer the first rendering but they are both very pleasant to listen to. You have indeed made great progress within the scope of 12 months. Listening to you I am beginning to wonder why I only held on to the G70 for a month or so...
Ah well, you cannot have them all!!

Not happy with the recording yet. I think somewhere between(That rings a country bell) the two is what I'm trying to achieve.

The mic is very good but soo sensitive I had the mic stand just touching the keyboard stand and I was getting quite a rubble from it. If the studio (bedroom LOL)door is slightly ajar I can hear the TV quietly in the headphones, have to send the Lady out shopping .

It's just a question of time getting the sound I want, maybe it's the voice who knows, it does show up any problems with your singing which can't be a bad thing in the future.

I've just recorded the song again but it's not quite finished. I'll post it when I'm done.

Up to now it's been a great learning experience, I am really having a great deal of fun. Hope I can say the same for the rest of you very patient listeners out there in cyberspace. It's really good to have so many extra pairs of ears all listening on different speakers/headphones etc.

Your opinions are very valuable.

To me your second take sounded stronger, more confident and was great to listen to.

I've yet to make my first recording with my Rode M3 small diaphragm condenser. I'm curious why many home recordists prefer to invest in a large diaphragm condenser like your NT-3?

I decided on the NT-1A after much research, at the price £139.00
complete with shock-mount and pop screen it seemed a good buy. I used to own an AKG C3000 also a large diaphragm years ago and quite liked that but they are more expensive in comparison.

I'm spending most of my time recording these day's so it seemed a good way to go. I use an AKG D5 for my occasional live gig's, but for recording the Rode seems to be have a lot more natural response.

Col ... I am split - I like the vocal on this one better, but I really like the 'simplicity' of the background of the first one ... more like the first 2:45 of the video ...

Damned good rendition, old friend. Love the style you used and the vocals are really crisp and clear.
