Somewhere along the way, in Sicily, pastry called 'zeppole' (as shown in Donny's post) became associated with the feast and is now the OFFICIAL St. Joseph's Day pastry ...

My wife's grandmother was Sicilian and her name was Josephine ... she had a special devotion to St. Joseph and on the feast day - March 19 - would set up a special table with certain foods that she would only serve on that day ... my wife's sister's name is Josephine and she continues the tradition today ...

... but he does a really good job ...

BTW ... learning a verse or chorus to a song in Italian/Spanish/French/whatever, is really neat ... brings the performance to a whole new level ...

Thanks for the explanation. I stayed with US host families twice during the month of March (in Chatham,NJ and Satellite Beach,FL), but I never came across St.Joseph's Day then. Seems I missed these cakes.
