Many people onhere still think that modern day deejays just play records.. Times have changed, and many of them are turning into electronic musicians..

Just have a look at this deejay using NI Machine...

Actually first it was just software...

Now its a combination of hardware and software.... Dedicated controllers.
Machine is a beast, and there is talk of NI building all this soft and hardware experience intoo a workstation.

My kids in school are all having a blast with Novation's Launchpad. There's even a free iPad app that works great. I can even use it live with my "old folks" rig ... hee, hee..

Well, I'm an arranger player. No interest in dj work, although I've done it a time or two. When they stop calling me to entertain the way I do it then I'll fade into the sunset.

Yes it is, wayt till they discover that they can make these sequences follow a chordline... Or even better, play chords realtime and allow the music to follow that.

With all and the schools crying poor mouth, and budget cuts, its a wonder kids know what an instrument is or does. Very sad situation that's only getting worse. Just My Opinion! Just try to take away my keyboards, not gonna happen ever

Not for me, either. I'll keep playing until either my health doesn't allow me to continue, or the demand ceases. When either takes place, I'll sail over the horizon, sip Margarettas, sing to myself and never look back. smile

Wish I didn't have to but if I want to get out at all I have to DJ. Very little call for OMB's. As for the new stuff its all part of the "instant gratifiation" mentality of todays youth. I taught piano for a time and for some students they thought if they just showed up at a 1/2 lesson that was it. Mention practicing every day and they'd lose interest. I even noticed the guitar teacher in the studio would shove the "Smoke On the Water" lick on his new students as soon as they could hold the guitar.
"Look I'm playing a song ! " LOL
These new tools are progressing from toys to legit music making devices and hopefully will be used creativly by some who have also really learned their craft.
