Kenneth, it is much better to transfer your songs from KN7000 to PC via the USB link, since the transfer is purely digital and the quality of the sound is not degraded by the audio link. I agree with you about the volume level being too low, as have other members of the forum, when using the USB transfer method. I use the USB transfer method using Goldwave and then increase the volume level in the digital domain, which does not introduce any extra noise or distortion. Having done this, I can then record to CD in either .WAV or .MP3 fromat. Although I am not totally familiar with Cool Edit, I feel sure that it will have a facility to increase the volume after the USB transfer.

Willum: Do you first record using the "Audio recorder" program that came with the KN7000? And then load the wav file into another program and then again raise the amplitude with this other program? I tried this way and I had to raise the amplitude by about 10db (with Cool Edit). I'm not sure if I can hear something difference in sound qualtiy this way.

I don't use the Panasonic Audio Recorder, I record direct into a program called 'Goldwave' via the USB link. I don't know if CoolEdit will accept direct USB input - maybe someone else can answer this. A trial version of Goldwave digital audio editor is available as a free download from Goldwave.com It is the full program but has a few minor restrictions, which can be removed, if you register and pay about $30 - $40. From memory, I too found that post recording, the level had to be increased about 8 - 10db, before saving the file to hard disc and subsequently to CD. However, this did not cause any problems and is a simple operation.

All other mp3's on the page is still recorded without USB cable.
