Here's me playing "In The Mood" then "Moonlight Serenade", which I usually do as a continuous medley.
My videos are all available as HD (720p) if you click the YouTube controls).

(I realized afterward that the camera angle I chose was not great since my R arm sometimes blocked out the view of my L hand! I have 'corrected' this by using a different angle in some other videos I recorded yesterday.)

Here I have them as 2 separate videos:

I really like Moonlight Serenade. The clarinet is very convincing, nice "supernatural" feature with the glissando, and well played to activate it. All the saxophone sounds and solo trumpet sound very good, too. I guess I would slightly prefer that trumpet to the Integra SN-A trumpet.

Very nice Jim. I do have a Yamaha style that is great for In The Mood. Send me a PM if you'd like it.

Regarding this Audya demo of In the Mood, it has the most original sounds I have heard so far, it is the most accurate cover with all the solos and the end sequence available on Youtube, and it excels in relation to ALL Tyros versions I have heard on Youtube - and I listened to many, some quite poor ones with an absurdly astronomic number of views and likes...
Jim should definitely not feel discouraged by this outstanding Audya demo (I'm not sure whether posting it was in order to motivate or demotivate him.)

I agree on the Audya version simply great!!
I enjoyed Jim's "Moonlight Serenade" but his "In The Mood" version IMO lacked sound accuracy & timing for such a complicated song played on an arranger keyboard using the two Kb method as such.
many of teh demos on your tube use a SMF also which lets the player flourish to concentrate on lead sounds also nothing wring with that.

Yes, that's the one I find NOT remarkable at all. The number of likes and views is incredible for this average cover, I don't get it. He also uses a Yamaha midi file which is poor in itself, with very simplified solos.

Yes...It was just a good example nothing spectacular but not bad either....this song arrangement has so many different sound components within its arrangement and to play it in one shot is very difficult......

Yes, it's a great style that I got from Eileen many years ago. I'll email you the style so you can try it on your S950.

Hi - wow, that Ayuda version of this song is GREAT! And I don't mind seeing something a lot better than mine - it's not discouraging, only gives me something to learn better etc. - I'm always willing to learn and try to improve. My "In The Mood" is played "by ear" so perhaps it's not all that great (not the exact right sounds, and maybe timing not quite right etc). I can learn from the better version (and maybe some more careful listens to the original by Glenn Miller!

I'm confused about the version of "In The Mood" that someone said got so many likes on YouTube but was so poor, and uses a Yamaha MIDI files, etc. - that's not mine (since I am not using a MIDI file) … maybe those comments refer to another one? My "In The Mood" rendition uses a built-in style, but not MIDI files.

I see several people have styles that are "made for" this tune - I'll have to try some of those out to see if I can get a better rendition of this tune …

Thanks!
Jim

Regarding the 'average' version that got so many clicks and likes, we didn't refer to yours, but to other Tyros videos, such as the one Dnj gave as an example below the Audya video. I guess there is some kind of 'multiplier mechanism' involved with the number of clicks.
What your version is concerned, I noticed that it is a style and no midi file. One thing you could change is playing the fast repetitive pattern (the main melody e g c e g c etc.) with soft saxophones, that's not typical to be played by the trumpet(s), the brass rather throw in short chords.

I quite like this real orchestra version of German Max Greger with a radio orchestra, it's close to the original and BTW it's a nice landscape in the Alps, too:

Here's the style I use for Moonlight Serenade https://app.box.com/s/t5jdxvfsd7q33nkcw04l

And here's one for In The Mood https://app.box.com/s/k467e4rh4yy84conh7kx

Obviously, these are Yamaha styles, but they can be converted to other brands.

Gary ... could you record the styles as an mp3 so I could just listen to them ? ... obviously you would have to play the chord progression as well ... thank you ...

Hi ...

Gary: thanks for posting those styles, I'll give 'em a try!
Rosetree: thanks for the tip re: Saxes vs. Trumpets ... another thing to try!
Others: thanks for the links to real bands playing In The Mood, will be good 'inspiration' to listen to how a real band plays it!

Thanks all,
Jim

Hi - thanks to those that gave styles for "In The Mood" - I tried them out tonight. It was a new experience for me to have a style that was so "made" for a specific song! It was fun trying them out. I selected one that I'll be using from now on for this tune. These styles tend to "do a bit more of the work" for me, but that'll let me concentrate on the song more, and I can add to the "horn stabs" and accents etc. a bit if I feel I want/need to.

I'll probably still play "my own" solo in this song rather than try to exactly duplicate the original solo, but now the main part of the song will be closer to the "signature sound" of Glenn Miller thanks to these new styles!

Thanks again,
Jim

Jim ... always add your own solo ... you are a performer - no need to sound exactly like the original ...

Yes, agreed … for most songs I add my own solo … once in a while, when a song has a strong "signature" solo, I will come closer to it, such as the synth solo in "Runaway", which I usually come close to the original on. . . or that "Rocky Theme" that I posted, where I try to be somewhat like the original but not trying to be exactly like it etc.

For songs that have been done by lots of different artists, covered by endless different bands, etc. etc., it's easier to just "do my own thing" on them . . .
(improvising with songs is half the fun sometimes! :-)
