instead of iLoud or Bose Sounddock portable, what do you think of this premium "picknick basket" as a speaker for mini gigs? Bang & Olufsen, still expensive, but reduced to 499€.

BTW, according to many reviews, this speaker has 120 W RMS! (I don't find this spec on the Bang & Olufsen website).

I'll cautiously test it, luckily there are 2 Bang & Olufsen stores in my area. Unfortunately, I read in a review that the signal has a time lag when amplified, which would make it unusable for live use... (Would be the same problem as with the new Bose Soundtouch product line).

Sorry for the OT Rosetree, but my wife comes from Wuppertal. She hasn't been back in many years, and I showed her your location.

Small world sometimes.

Really! Wuppertal is only 30 miles from my place. I often pass by on the way to Cologne. Real coincidence.

Really Small world smile
I am originally from Witten an der Ruhr and my wife from Bochum, which is about 20 miles to Wuppertal.
We have been in Ca 25+ years...
Where are you from Rosetree?

Really funny! We used to have an English language regulars' table in WITTEN 15 years ago, when I studied in BOCHUM, where I still work a lot, and I live in Dortmund :-)

Doesn't surprise me, Witten, Bochum, Dortmund, it's all completely intertwined, but Dortmund is the center ;-)

Coming back to the mini speaker topic, I successfully tested the Bang & Olufsen 'basket' in the store today, it has no signal latency and a sound which appeared more powerful than the Bose Sounddock portable to me, so I believe the spec of 120 W RMS. I guess it'll be mine by Thursday (the 'special offer' will end then), and I'm going to sell one of my Bose docks (which I never thought I would).

Digging out this old thread - I indeed bought the Bang & Olufsen Beolit 12 in late summer.
As 499 Euros was a hefty price tag and I also got a low-priced Bose Soundlink Air (soundwise identical to Sounddock portable) on Ebay, I have been trying to sell the Beolit again, as the maximum output of the Bose Soundlink Air was as impressive as that of the Beolit, maximum sound pressure is astounding in both cases (they weigh just about 6 pounds each!).
There's an additional problem: the Beolit switches itself off after a few minutes when there is no signal. It turns on again if the signal returns, but only with default medium volume setting. So playing in a church with breaks in between is problematic (and there is no remote unless you buy it extra). But I read that a firmware update prevents it from turning itself off if connected to mains.
Today, I finally decided to keep it after comparing it again with the Bose, playing pipe organ samples. The Beolit has got deeper bass (and a seperate built-in woofer, while the Soundlink only has the 2 broadband speakers and the air duct for bass), and it is clear of distortion, while with full, high-volume pipe organ sounds the Bose starts to slightly distort.
Picture of the Beolit is attached. Picture of the Bose Soundlink Air see link. I recommend either one!

...just to repeat the wattage again: it is 120 W RMS - and it really sounds like that.
