An atheist was seated next to a little girl on an airplane and he turned to her and said, "Do you want to talk? Flights go quicker if you strike up a conversation with your fellow passenger." The little girl, who had just started to read her book, replied to the total ... Stranger, "What would you want to talk about?" "Oh, I don't know," said the atheist. "How about why there is no God, or no Heaven or Hell, or no life after death?" as he smiled smugly.
"Okay," she said. "Those could be interesting topics but let me ask you a question first. A horse, a cow, and a deer all eat the same stuff - grass. Yet a deer excretes little pellets, while a cow turns out a flat patty, but a horse produces clumps. Why do you suppose that is?" The atheist, visibly surprised by the little girl's intelligence, thinks about it and says, "Hmmm, I have no idea." To which the little girl replies, "Do you really feel qualified to discuss God, Heaven and Hell, or life after death, when you don't know shit?" And then she went back to reading her book.

A little boy was waiting for his mother to come out of the grocery store. As he waited, he was approached by a man who asked, “Son, can you tell me where the post office is?” The little boy replied, “Sure, just go straight down the street a couple of blocks and turn to your right.” The man thanked the boy kindly and said, “I’m the new pastor in town, and I’d like for you to come to church on Sunday. I’ll show you how to get to Heaven.” The little boy replied with a chuckle, “Awww, come on; you don’t even know the way to the post office!” Boo, I don't want to sound like I'm bragging or anything, but this is the fifth end of the world I've survived. Ian, I learned from a fellow at a local Best Buy showing me an antenna who had Ian on his shirt, that "I-an" is pronounced "E-an" is that correct?
I'm amazed that this post didn't get one comment until yours and what in the hell took you so long? LOL.
Ian, You said: "Boo, I don't want to sound like I'm bragging or anything, but this is the fifth end of the world I've survived."
Ian, I say: It'd be great if we both survived the real end of this "wicked system of things" (not the end of the World)that we live under. We could have the biggest laugh in the history of mankind. It's the "wicked system of things and people that we live under" that will be destroyed or end, not the Earth. "The Earth Abideth forever," is what the bible says. For example, if your house was infested with termites, would you destroy the house or just get rid of the termites and repair the house?
Have a nice day. Jehovah isn't happy at all with Christianity either. They have always been heavily involved in the slaughter of people in every war. So called Christian leaders blessing the soldiers, tanks etc on both sides of a war. Can you imagine Him looking down on these actions of people claiming to be his people? These kinds of actions by people claiming to do this in righteousness, in his name, causes thinking people to not believe in Jehovah. So, he will see that these wicked ones will be destroyed at armageddon too right along with the wicked world leaders and those who are ruining the earth.

Boo, I believe that "spiritual duties" (or "religion") consist in having mercy, doing justice, and trying to make our friends and family happy.
But, in case you would think that I believe many other things as well as these, I should make it clear that I do not believe in the religious doctrines declared by the Roman Catholic, Jewish, and Protestant churches, or by any of the other churches that exist today, for that matter.
My intelligence (my mind) is my own "church".
I do not mean by saying this, to denounce those who believe otherwise...I feel they have the same right to their belief as I have to mine.
My view is that it is necessary for the happiness of a man, that he be mentally faithful to himself.
I enjoy my right to be faithful to my own concept of what the meaning of life entails, and I owe no explanation to anyone else concerning my beliefs.
I guess my policy boils down to a simple, "live and let live"...it works for me, and, that's all that matters.
Ian
PS...Yes, "E-an" is the correct pronunciation of Ian...it is Gaelic-Scotch for "John"

Brickboo, I like your posts about religion.Even if I don't agree with what you say, I do understand it.At least you write your own thoughts, not just copy/paste from some scriptures. This way we can agree or disagree on this subject, but still respect each others way of thinking. At least from my end.

Yep, Mirza, that's what I also admire about Boo...what he writes are his OWN thoughts, and I have to respect a man for that.
My only wish (I guess you could call it that) is that all religious doctrines should not be taught to kids UNDER the age of consent...much like the age for alcohol purchase/consumption or the legal age to drive a car. Then, they can make a more informed decision on what they wish to embrace in their life, or, if they wish to not to make any one code of values/ethics their own.
Certainly, they should never be forced to follow the religious doctrine of their parents...it should be a choice, and they should be allowed to change it at any time in the future.
Quoting from scripture is just giving us some other man's thoughts/ideas from another time.
I like Boo...he's a smart cookie!
And, I like your way of thinking as well.
Ian

Glad to hear that, Nigel, since it (religion) IS an important and serious topic to discuss. But I'm not sure that anything can be discussed with 'True Believers' using LOGIC as a basis for that discussion. Witness the current situation in Iraq; "CONVERT OR DIE" - not just to Islam but to MY brand of Islam. Seems like things haven't changed much since the Middle Ages or even Biblical times. Only the names (labels) have changed, the principle is the same; some people's belief that they have the (excuse the expression) 'God-given right' to impose their beliefs and will on other people, and that only their POV, no matter how ludicrous, is acceptable for all other humans on the planet. It still amazes me how any rational, intelligent human being could think that, but I've come to see the awesome power of parental and peer indoctrination, especially when applied at an early age.
I've often thought, if only we could extract the basic morality out of MOST religions and leave the rest of the garbage (superstition, fairy tales, threats and intimidation, cultism, mind control, etc., etc.,) behind, then we wouldn't have or have had, an ISIS, or an Inquisition, or a Jonestown, or a Salem Witch hunt, or a .......well, the list is endless. But we continue to create imaginary beings in our mind, all with strict rules and doctrines that must not only be obeyed but imposed on our neighbors as well, ....that, or face a horrible fate. It matters little that our 'neighbor' has a different 'imaginary friend' and set of rules; only ours is valid......'and his name is Jehovah....or Allah, or....fill in the blank'.
I beseech you, go back to that other thread and watch that George Carlin Video again. It's GOT to make more sense than that book of contradictions that so many use to explain EVERYTHING.
Peace,
chas
