I've just seen a post at General Arranger forum, and I'm a bit surprised, even if I'm not much familiar to the Yamaha 9k's. http://www.synthzone.com/ubbs/Forum37/HTML/003787.html

This is the first time I've heard it is that good..
Wondering if there is any other Technics users who have the same experiences, if so, I might have to try out one myself before I go for a SD1 or a KN7000.

an old review of prs9000 is here:
http://www.svpworld.com/9000review.htm

of course the review didn't cover the 2 os upgrades which solved many problems with early OS ... review is a couple of years old.

I think more people are willing to try the prs9000 because of the price reduction (down from 3,600 dollars to 1999 new and 1699 floor model! I wouldn't pay $3,600 dollars for it but it's now in the same price point as pa80, motif,karma,ect... and it can do alot sampling, harmonizer, hard drive, scii, 128 poly, ect!

HI GUNNAR,
I have had 4 Technics, one a pr digital piano, and I have never had or wanted a Yamaha. I had a lot of good reasons for that. I always played around with the Yamaha's in the department stores when waiting on my wife shopping. I had no idea they had any professional Keyboards. I thought they were all toys and this also colored my attitude about buying anything with their name on it for my studio. I have never had anything Yamaha in the Studio until now.
I am in total awe of this keyboard. In the last 30 years I have had about every keyboard made except Yamaha and Casio and I have to say this keyboard has everything in it that I ever would wish for in a keyboard. I think some of the styles could be better but the new styles I am downloading and installing in flash memory are just that. The samples are nearly as great as KN6 and nany are even greater IMHO. I am pleased, but don't misunderstand. I will still buy the KN7000 if........... it has a decent hard drive that works and even some of the bells and whistles that Yamaha has on their top board. It is subjective and remains to be seen, but I think anyone that can ought to have both the top end Technics and Yamaha.
Best to you and all your beautiful Fjords

HI: Everyone
I'm new here but have been monitoring here for some time now.
I have to agree with BEBOP on the top end Yamaha keyboards,
they are great, IMO.

I have the Technics KN5000 bought it new, I looked at the KN6000
& didn't think there was enough improvement over the KN5000
to justify buying one, same with the 6500.

In my area the top end Technics list for $5900. USD, I bought the
KN5000 for $4300. thinking I got a heck of good deal.
I was definitely thinking of buying another Technics until I started
looking around at other brands & seen what they had to offer &
at lower price's.

I chose to buy the Yamaha 9000 PRO & I'm very glad I did it is a
great Keyboard, it does everything Technics does & more, the
voice's are as good & many are better, some of the styles are
simpler, & that's OK because they will work for wider variety of
song's, but there is a lot of styles that are better then the Technics. IMO

There are sooooooo many styles available for Yamaha on the Net
it is unbelievable & for free.
The support on the Net is great, it's seems like there are allot more
folks playing Yamaha then any other brand. & if you want a hard drive
or such things it don't cost an arm & a leg, just one or the other. he he

I have become a YamahaOholic.
But I will keep my KN5000 also, even though I don't play it anymore
maybe some day I will boot it up again.

Enjoying the 9000 PRO
Denny

Hello

I'd sure like to know where you can buy these for $1999 and $1699. As a matter of fact I'd love to know where I could even see one. I also would love to see a PSR2000 and a Technics KN6500 or KN6000. Any leads?

Pensacola, Florida

Thanx

Bebop, the quoted words was missing in your post, and that is the main
reason for my reply/post.

As I always use to say when the "what is the best" or "what shall I buy"
discussion at the forums are going on, every brand of those topline
keyboards is great, and they have functions unique for that brand.
I think it's the needs and personal taste that the person who buy and
play it who counts.
For me it is the composer and easyness to edit and mix styles etc, and
so far I've not found anything else who suits my needs like that in any
other brands.

I can't imagine that Yamaha is twice as good as i.e. Technics or other
"top line" keyboards, that is to use too big words, just as if I should
say that Technics is twice as good as others.
Better stay reasonable cool, and compare correctly by the technical data
and the material quality.
If it is twice as good for one users personal needs, it's not nessesary
the keyboard itself who is soooo much better.

Regardless of what brand,
Happy playing!

The price level seems to be quite different around the world.
Usually the top line keyboards match eachoters pricelevel here
in Norway, but may be higher than usual when a new model is
launched.
I.e. at the moment both KN6500, SD1 and PSR9000 are pretty close,
about € 3400.
But it is a good time for negotiation just now, and it's possible
to do a real good bargain

There are large variations in list price around the world, but prices will always come down when models are replaced because dealers want to get rid of stock of the old model to make space for the new.

As for the pros and cons of the 9000, I seem to remember that subject was well dealt with more than 3 years ago and 2 forums in the past....

THe 9000pro was the most complete arranger I've ever seen....if you didn't need speakers or small size. In terms of bugs ... I don't remember any that were major, and the hard drive was easy & cheap to do yourself. Size & silence were the only things that kept it out of my road rig. The effects section is as good as many home studios, and clearly better than any other portable keyboard. If patterns are your thing - the vast library from all the other manufacturers is available as well.

I guess with the Price Reduction and new prs2000 and cvp209 styles added to the PRS 9000 ... it makes it more attractive for some. And the 2 OS upgrades fixed the problems others had 3 years ago!

The only complaint I still hear is the Weight 50lbs! But for studio, composer, song-writer ... that's not a problem... and for those that gig in different places each night ... I could see they have a valid point. Although I would probably put it on small metal kitchen table with wheels that Target sells for 50 dollars (got tip from other Board).

Of the 3 yamaha models I looked at: prs2000, 9000pro, prs9000 ... the prs9000 was the only model that had the Wood Encased Speakers, Sampler, and hard drive option ... and I knew I wanted the Speakers for fast and easy setup and monitoring!

Yes, Alec I remember your comparison of the two. I think you arrived at a different conclusion than some are saying now!

Hi Marilyn, a very slight correction if I may, I never offered a conclusion or even an opinion. I merely corrected the numerous factual errors around at that time, used quite spuriously to try and 'prove' the superiority of one thing over another. These were so obvious at the time that is was a matter of amazement to me that no one else was challenging them.
