hi...yesterday I played around w/ the E443 in a store -- very nice sounds and it was extremely easy to record a simple "song" (really a four-bar riff), much easier than I remember on any other PSR.

guess I'm wondering if the sequencer has been changed/improved up the line, particularly w/ the 950. I like to use only drums from a style and then record my own bass and accompanment parts. how's the workflow for that on the 950? I remember Yamaha sequencer being a bit tricky in terms of recording several parts at once (ie, a "quick record") and then turning the result into a loop...

I'm grateful for any and all insights...

If your into sequencing your won parts using an arranger KB, KORG or Roland would be a better way to go......if not look into a workstation etc,...

really Korg isn't a great option b/c to do a Quick Record sequence I have to use the Korg basslines. what I'm wondering: on the 950, is it possible to record a drum/perc style but then use live keyboard input for everything else.
I was able to do that on the E443 and it made me wonder about the 950.

The S950 (and S750/Tyros) all let you do a quick record of a song using a style, and you can easily shut off any style parts you don't want recorded, either before or after recording. You can then add 8 tracks of your own playing on the keyboard to the original recording. The style parts comprise up to 8 tracks of the 16 tracks total available.

As far as looping a bass/drum track to record over (someone correct me if I'm wrong), I don't think it can be done on a Yamaha PSR/Tyros sequencer.

Also, the editing on the Yamaha isn't as powerful as on some competitor's on board sequencers, such as Korg, but it is workable.

To sum up, you can combine aspects of quick record (using a style) and multi-tracking in whatever way suits you best.

by loop I just meant recording a 4-8 bar "song" and then designating it to repeat over and over. that I think is possible on the Yamaha arranger sequencer. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to generate my own bass part, for example. or be stuck using a guitar comping pattern in "Quick Record."

I just watched some video on the 950 and it does seem like Yamaha has stepped up the game in terms of sound....

No, NO, NO - you can not loop any recorded part on any of the arranger keyboards while recording other tracks.
To some extent, you can copy and paste bars to a track for your loops, but that is much easier done in a DAW package.
