Jordan is one Hell of a player, but to my aging ears, the keyboard sounded awful.

You realize that the keyboard was not recorded directly . It's a camera mic.

I agree, but then, I am not into the nuances of Indonesian music either. It is hard for me to believe Jordan would release something ratty, even for money.

That video does nothing for Rudess or the keyboard.

The pa900 is a great sounding arranger
Jordan Rudess is the best synthplayer

So what did go wrong here?

Both the statements are fine. As Ian said the demos don`t do much good for either party. If it were not for a video, it would have been mistaken for anything.. may be a CZ-1 smile

My Pa900 doesn't sound like that, but then I don't play Indonesian music either ... I don't have his dexterity anymore, either ...

That ^one^ is MUCH better, Tony.

The PA-900 sounds awesome in Marco's hands.

Anything can sound better when it's studio enhanced & produced & Marco knows that......no secret there...

Rudess is a monster player. I am sure he meant it to sound that way for the genre...listen to what he says in the demo.

The style that he is playing sounds like a converted style using simple GM sounds . Secondly it is clear that Mr Rudess has no clue how to play an arranger keyboard and doesn't know how to play in the style he used . Finally he clearly hasn't had any preparation time to play this instrument. It looks like he was a guest at someone's home and they simply put out the keyboard and asked him to play something. Put in a position like that ,what was he supposed to do?

Not wishing to be rude he simply played something and did his usual 16 million Notes per second riffs which may work well for prog rock music but certainly not for the style he was playing .

The quality is not bad, it's just that that type of music uses that type of percussion, not that much in the low end spectrum and for western musicians not familiar, would not like the fidelity.
