Major changes in my life , more later , but has anyone been able to make a living giving private "beginner lessons" , in stuff like general music theory ?

IE: Teaching of chord structure , inverted triads , notation , etc.

While in graduate school, I had 212 students and 5 teachers working for me. I has several offices in Carl's Music Center, the favorite music store of all in the town.

Today, I have 10 students...pros, mostly. One comes here from Dayton; another from St Louis. I work on one area and tell them to call me when they can do that function.

Several friends who are retired have 15-20 students. That's $00-500
a week in extra income.

Summers are slow, with lots of school kids dropping out until classes start.

Thanks for the info , I appreciate it.

If I did I would only do very basic and beginner , and when I could do no more with there studies , I would refer them to a local music store that gives advanced lessons.

I figure under 17 parents strongly encouraged to attend lesson , over 17 , I would use my own judgment.

That way the person wanting to explore music and see if they enjoy playing , can learn the basics from me , and hon there skills with a more qualified teacher.

That way it could save them money if they don`t like it , and help the advanced teacher from teaching the basic stuff.

Good way to go ?
