An added question to this thread. I have the Style converter for the KN6000/65000.

Does anyone know if it will work on the 7K?

Hi ,
I doubt it. Are you referring to the optional kn7 style conversion disk ( the one that does the newer model keyboards) or the style convert disk that comes standard with the kn7.

The disk I have, I bought when I had the 6500 and I used it to convert yamaha styles over to the 6500.
I forgot to hand it over when I traded the 6500 for the 7000, and wanted to know if that disk would still work?

Did I get a style converter disk with the 7000? I can't remember, I'll have to have a hunt round and see if I have one.

Hi,
you should have, but it's only the basic one. From memory, it won't convert psr styles.
I think Technote were selling a style conversion disk for the kn7 ( that does newer keyboards).
Might be worth getting in touch with them. I doubt they do upgrades or whatever, but doesn't hurt to ask.

Thanks Alec,
for setting me straight. That's really great news.
Just out of interest, the conversion disk we got with our kn7's is that the same one as we originally got with our kn5's.

the 5k disk is not identical to the 7k disk Rikki; if you try and load the 5k style converter in the 7k you will most probably crash the machine or it will just automatically re-boot.

Hi Alec,

Will the 6K converted work in the PR54 and are copies still avaiable if it does. I turned mine in thinking it was of no use.

Hi Heather, depends whether one was supplied with the PR, and whether you see a button for style converter in the disk menu page.

I didn't get a style converter with the KN2600 and wonder if anyone can guess (or knows) if the one mentioned here for the 7000 would work with it?
I was under the impression that the only PSR to Technics style converter would be the EMC one, and as it's a bit more than I want to spend an alternative is interesting. (still trying to run when I should be crawling)

thanks

The converdisk are just another and special
made EMC version made to work from the KNs.
This disk was first supplied with the KN5000
and then upgraded to convert Yamaha files as
well.
If the disk are supplied for free anymore, I
don't know......

Just carry on running, it make you healthy

Hi Alec,

I guess not since none was supplied.

I'll have to depend on others.

Hi Mary & Heather,
I don't think style conversion is a function that the kn24/26 and the PR piano's have. My old pr602 didn't have it , wheras it's equivalent in keyboards the KN5 did.
The function is under disk menu on the kn7 ( along with load, save etc) as is called "style conversion).

thommeke, such programs usually cost money, and to ask
people send you like this is not right.
If you have EMC and want a upgrade, why not go to the
website and buy/download from there?
But as Willem says, it's no version yet to convert down
from KN6000 and up.

Hi,
Technote sells a KN7000 conversion disk that converts
some of the newer keyboards, including psrs
( only works in the KN7 keyboard as far as I'm aware) http://www.technote.com/productdetails.asp?prodid=10238&returnto=/products.asp?catid=43
These disks don't appear to be able to be backed up in a P.C. so anyone who owns one, look after it well ( in short, as far as I'm aware , they can't be copied on P.C.'s)
I would imagine the same goes for the KN6/6500 version?

If you actually have EMC's stylework program, you can convert it to the KN5000 and use the style in your kn7000 keyboard.

If it's mainly psr styles you're wanting to convert there are other ways of doing them, but would require a lot more work than doi+n+g it with the Style conversion disks.

Yamaha styles are basically a midifile with a .sty extension. Change that extension to .mid and you have a midifile.
From there you could load the midifile into your sequencer, and use the seq. to style function in your kn7 keyboard.

There are a couple of problems though.
1.Yamaha drums are xg, so some of the drum sounds would need to be corrected.
2.Yamaha styles are based on a major7th chord
so there'd be a lot of "b's" that you'd either have to delete or change to a "c".

A fair bit of work.

If you've got any questions , I'd be happy to try & help.
I've got a bit of a styles group going at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/kn7000styles/

best wishes
Rikki

That's interesting Rikki, thanks for the explanation.
I have gone as far as loading a midi file and peeking at it in the KN2600 sequencer and have an inkling of how maybe parts could be copied and pasted to eventually end up with all the 'style' bits (and pads too) to tweak and save... but I'm only at a kindof a 'hmmm if I do that' stage, I'm not trying seriously yet. Perhaps I should be doing that instead of reading posts! The KN2600 doesn't have a seq to style feature that I know of, but where there's a will....

CDs
I've been using computers since the Commodore Amiga, great for music in its day *sigh* anyway, my experience with floppies was/is great, only had 3 or 4 fail on me ever, and because they hold so little lost only small amounts of data. CDs I find very touchy. I have had many many not work, or be particular on what CD reader they will work on, oddly enough, and it doesn't seem to matter what kind I use. Cheap or expensive, I find them equally unpredictable. So much so that I always make 2 copies at a time now.

I had been looking forward to the little USB 'pens', or whatever they're called, to get lower in price to switch to them but might consider these SD cards now that I have used them with the keyboard, I believe they are quite reliable.

Hi Mary,
if you have this function, it would be in the composer section.

sequencer to style.
