Hey Marcus, maybe you missed my smiley faces. My reference to the T5 was just an 'inside joke/jab' at some of my old arranger-playing friends here. There are quite a few stand-out musicians here on SZ that really like and appreciate great LIVE jazz (and the skill it takes to master it). That was my target audience for this post. The T5 is a fine instrument and for some, may be the 'best' arranger out there (I'm a Korg man myself, when it comes to Arrangers), but it's still AN ARRANGER, and will NEVER be musically equivalent to a GOOD live Jazz group---just as it's 'Hammond voices' will never be as expressive as a real B3. Still it's way more about the player than the instrument, and I'd much rather listen to a Marco Parisi on an arranger than some poser on a real B3. On a personal level, I find much more satisfaction playing my organ (clonewheel - KeyB Duo Mk111) than any of my three arrangers but that's just my personal preference. I fully respect those that feel differently. I guess I just feel more directly connected to (and in control of) the music. Also, like many others here, I also immensely enjoy playing with other musicians. Like politics, it sometimes makes strange bedfellows. I think that is because music cuts through all the BS like religion, politics, race, culture, looks, etc., and goes straight to the heart of the matter, COMMUNICATION. Boo said something a while ago about real musicians being able to hear subtle things in a performance (a phrase, or 'lick') that just jump out and grabs you; and have more emotional impact than 5 stanzas of a hymn . Those that know what I mean...know what I mean (Yogi-ism?). Wow, I DO ramble on. chas
