Don I agree the snare is much too hard for this song....
For myself I would try to completely change the style to maybe a slow Bossa Nova or something completely different.

Yeah, I know that, Donny, but NOBODY dances to Bossanova's, at least that's been my experience. At least with bluegrass you can get the cloggers on the dance floor.
