Probably, at least the way it looks, just the addition of a few new songs, but nothing in the OS.

Donny, I was going by the instruction manual and spec sheet that I read, which usually spells that stuff out fairly clearly. Now, if you want the MFD to link directly to the registrations, I can assure you that it does not. I only got to play with one for two hours, but in doing so I was also helping the new owner set it up. There is no link, at least that I could find, between the MFD and Registrations, and there was no way to save transpose information in the MFD.

Link between registrations and mdf would be great to speed up the setup.
But if you make one REG. bank -one song that pretty much you don't need MDF.
You can make different categories and save whatever you want in those.
For me fist REG is the style, the rest is for sounds.
If I need more than one style I do 123..or how many you need..
All this Yamaha could do much more simple. Why do I have to stop a style to save something? Why can't I save ots right away without saving a style o HD.
I mean it's not a big issue but than again it is.
Sometimes I want to save something when I play.It should be pretty easy, but it is not.
If I have to preplan every change in a style or keyboard setup, than where is musicality, where is the spur of the moment thing? Where is the inspiration as a musician??

I pre-plan EVERYTHING long before I go to the job. Nothing spur of the moment, guess I don't like surprises. wink The musicality and inspiration, however, comes every time I turn on the keyboard and look at the crowd in front of me. That's the old ham part of me coming out, which is the fun part as well. smile

Well Gary, your gigs are different than mine. And I don't like playing the same song twice the same. And usually from where I come from we get a lot of requests and that is where the money is. Sometimes you have to remember 10 or 20 requests

Mirza, I always tell them to write their requests on the back of a $20 dollar bill and I'll be glad to do them. Guess things must be a lot different in the frozen wilds of Canada. wink

Now if you don't like playing the same song twice using the same settings, then there is no reason for you to use registrations or the MFD. Just select any style and play the song the way you wish.

I play mostly Balkan (Croatian,Bosnian,Serbian and Macedonian) music.
From old folk songs to modern turbo folk, to pop and rock . And usually there is no set list. Once requests start there is no list.
My point is, Yamaha could make all this much easier to set up things.

If I remember correctly, both my S950 and S970 came with the same number of records; around 123 or so.

The MFD wasn't even a consideration when I bought a PSR keyboard.

First thing I do is delete all factory MFD entries... I only use it for custom made MP3 Backing tracks..... All style songs via Registrations....

As stated above, it only comes with a few MFD entries. The complete list can be downloaded for free at Yamaha website.
I personally don't use the MFD, except when I first get it to scroll through, see if it "knows" any songs I might use, audition them and either save them to Registrations or forget them.
Haven't found much I use.
