One thing that impresses me about the PA 4X is how much smaller it is than the Tyros...close to 6 inches less width.

Was able to compare them just over a week ago (While I was investigating the Sonic) and one thing that stood out, was that neither sounded anything like the online demos using the typical speakers systems they are sold with. (They are after all designed specifically for the home hobby player where big PA’s and mixers are a no no in the lounge)

Golden rule, (Which hasn’t changed for centuries) always try before you buy, and take online demos with a pinch of salt unless you are familiar with the high end sound system and recording equipment used by most (But not all) manufactures for the demos.

These blurbs are the initial lines of advertising for both keyboards. As you see the manufacturers tout them as Performance keyboards, designed at least in part for entertaining live audiences.

It has always amazed me that people judge the sound of a KB or speakers from what they hear in the on-line demos ... especially when they are usually listening through PC speakers or earphones ...

To be honest...I haven't listened to the 970 through the onboard speakers since I bought it.

I have monitored it through my studio monitors and studio quality headphones. I'm amazed how the overall presence and full frequency response is reproduced without any apparent noise. I remember using the PSR-S900 for a while and being disappointed with the lack of high frequency response. Yamaha has certainly made some great strides in this area. Regarding the sound of the 970 and recording it in Cubase...all I can say is...Is it live...or is it Memorex!
