The Blitten Shizzard hit about 4 p.m. yesterday afternoon, and it now 3:35 p.m. the following day and it's still snowing about an inch an hour. I fired up the snow blower at 11 this morning, and just walked in the door. The only time I stopped was to fill the snow blower's gas tank, and clean the spark plug, which was fouled because the first tank of gas was two years old and nasty.
In most locations of my 300-foot driveway the snow was about 18 to 24 inches deep, but there were a few drifts to 4 feet, which took quite a while to get through. Then the idiot running the county snow plow plowed 3 feet of snow into the top of my driveway just as I was finishing up, so I spend another 20 minutes clearing that mess.
I'm wet, cold, tired, and after I get some hot soup for lunch, I'm gonna fill a glass with Jim Bean Honey Bourbon and sit down in front of the gas log fireplace and relax.
Hey Donny - Tell me how much you enjoy the cold weather, NOW! How many jobs do you think will get canceled from this crap? If you were in the Florida Keys now you would be playing every night to hot babes in the restaurants and tiki bars. You can bet Eddie Shoemaker isn't shivering his butt off today.
Just one day closer to spring! C'mon April.
Gary

Hi Gary, things are different here in Hervey Bay, Queensland. It is hot, sticky and about 35C or 95F, whichever turns you on. I remember your conditions really well having lived in Fort McMurray, Alberta for 5 years. I don't miss the snow shovelling or winter tyres one little bit. Gotta go, the wife wants to go for a dip in the pool!

Tony, That's what I call making lemonade when you've only got lemons, you're making the best of the snowy weather. As a side note here in Florida I grille our dinner outdoors every night evening usually in short sleeves. That's does look like a fine steak and rabe to go along with it way to go my friend!

I sure hope your car isn't under that pile of white stuff! Donny, tell me the truth - If you don't shovel snow - EVER, then does Nancy dig your car out for you?
Keep warm and safe up there,
Gary

First, I have to get to the driveway, which is about 150 feet from the patio, where I keep the snow blower in the winter.
Once I get to the driveway, it takes about six passes with the 24-inch wide snow blower to clear the driveway.
Thus far, I have about 7 hours invested in clearing the driveway and sidewalk. I just came in, I'm wet, cold, and everything hurts. I just washed down a morphine with a glass of Jim Bean Honey Bourbon over ice. Now it's time for football, a heating pad and soft couch.
All the best,
Gary

Tony, the first game was great, the second game, which I just gave up on, is an obvious blowout.
As for the mix killing me, that would be preferable to asbestosis, which seems to be advancing faster than I would like - at least I would go out with a buzz.
All the best old friend, and keep warm up there in the frozen north.
Gary

Gary, I'm sure you're aware of the dangers involved in overdoing the 'snow shoveling' thing. I'm just saying, know when to hold 'em and know when to fo.....hire somebody. In fact, why don't you just move out of that hell hole they call the 'northeast' and go down to where your heart is (take your keys down to the keys ). Although my son and his family are here, I'm seriously starting to think about moving back to Florida full time. Sun good, snow bad.

Chas, I would have been out of here 30 years ago, but my wife refuses to leave Maryland. And, having spent 15 years working in cardio-pulmonary medicine, I'm well aware what my limits are when it comes to exertion outdoors in cold weather. That said, I tend to push myself beyond normal limits at times, but during the past few days, I took lots of short breaks - I needed them.
If my health allows, I fully intend to sail south to the Keys next October, and, as usual, I suspect my wife will opt to remain here in Maryland. Hope to see you there.:)

Donny, I will be more than happy to snowbird to Florida as soon as I hit Lotto. The cost of maintaining two homes is twice the cost of maintaining one. My way of snowbirding is to take my floating home down to the keys and live aboard the boat. Far less expensive than living on land, has all the conveniences of home, but on a significantly smaller scale. As a lady friend of mine put it, living aboard a 33 foot boat is like living in a large ladies closet - about the same square footage. I can handle it just fine, but Carol, NAH! Anything beyond four or five days living aboard is more than Carol enjoys. Not sure exactly why, though. She spends most of her time in less space at home. Of course, I'm not all that bright, though.
All the best,
Gary

Days are getting longer. It is now still light when I go to work in the evening. A few days like today (60+ degrees) and the bass will be moving into shallow water with amorous thoughts in their little fishy brains! I got new carpet in my boat and now awaiting arrival of new seats!
Hey Gary I had the same briefcase as your snowman when I went to Teachers College 49 years ago. Thought it would fit the teacher image. Dumped it after the first year. Suits and ties and briefcases are not my style. Suits the snowman though.

What snow?? We dodged a bullet in Buffalo. It's 40 and raining.
Last week we had a guy park near Lake Erie, while having a few at a bar. When he came out this was his car frozen in place. Lucky for him --- No DWI that night.
