I had several arrangers along the years, including Casio, Kawai, Roland and Korg, and played Yamaha too, but never owned it.

This other day I found an old Yamaha PSR730 and played some songs on it... and I had a little bit of revelation.

http://usa.yamaha.com/products/musical-i...yboards/psr730/

1. The changes in the last 19 years (this model is 1997 according to Wikipedia) are important, but really repackage, with few exceptions. The sounds were not that bad at that time either, the styles alright, fewer variations, fewer functions, but quite playable even for today's standards.

2. The build I think was better than what I've seen recently with PSR S950. Keyfeel about the same I guess, speakers better on 730 I think.

3. Display - probably is only me who'd feel this, but I do like the old LCD screen technology, the little icons which are not resolution-dependent, the old-styles digits format... I find them rather easy on eyes.

What is your experience with this model? I realize time flies, but actually did not realize how fast it flies. smile And that things are not that different twenty years later...

I had a 630. That keybed was the same as my PSR3000 and I've seen no evidence to suggest the later PSRs are any different.

I'm not sure build quality has deteriorated as such but the newer PSRs are deeper and heavier which will make the entire thing flex more than the older model so it will feel less solid.

Sounds - I didn't replace my 630 with a 2000 because I thought is sounded bad, I wanted the newer display and operating system. Then I changed the 2000 for a 3000 to get on board storage and the improved song management (i.e. the "next song" function). The megavoices were a bonus.

I've got an old MU80 which still sounds pretty good to me,

I never had an issue with the 630 display when I had it, but as soon as the 2000 came out with the full-screen lyric option I thought "that's the one for me"!
