How does one turn off the on -board speakers on the 970?

I used it for the first time on the job and I'd prefer to hear it only from the PA I'm using...

Thanks!

go to "FUNCTION --> UTILITY --> Tab CONFIG2 --> 1 SPEAKER: HEADPHONE SWITCH".

In this display you have three options (see also S970 reference manual, page 127):

HEADPHONE SW: Speaker sounds normally, but is cut off when headphones are connected to the [PHONES] jack.
ON: Speaker sound is always on, even if headphones are connected.
OFF: Speaker sound is off. You can only hear the instrument sound via the headphones or an external device connected to the AUX OUT jacks. (source psr tutorial)

BTW Bill how was your first live on stage experience wit the S970...?

Plug in headphones or a headphone adapter? That usually mutes on-board speakers.

All in all, not bad...

I allowed my self an extra 30 minutes set up time just to give me that extra comfort zone. Everything came together in a snap, so I sat and chatted with people for 15 minutes...

*With me not remembering how to turn off the damn on board speakers, I had a hard time evaluating how the 970 sounded through the Bose compact. From what I could tell, it sounded pretty darn nice, although I thought the low end was a bit too much for my liking. I'll listen closely next time, with the speakers off and if need be, try rolling off some low end on the tonematch...

*Everything is slightly smaller on the psr compared to a tyros, so triggering fills, breaks, switching instruments is still weird to me. Once I get a few dozen gigs under my belt, I suspect it'll be comfortable...

more later!

Hmmm... I haven't done anything with it... If the default is for it to be on, it's on.

What do you find the compressor does for you, Donny?

Bill, it pretty much makes it so that your vocals don't go beyond a certain level, thereby leveling out the vocal volume range. Also, it supposedly helps eliminate overdrive distortion, which can happen with some power singers.

You can find more details on this at http://www.homestudiocorner.com/processing-vocals-part-5-compression/

The low end stuff I noticed was keyboard related, not vocals...

Congrats, Bill, on purchasing a s970. I'm sticking with the 950; I don't play often enough to warrant getting a new board that's too similar to the one I have. In fact, I'm even selling my Hammond Sk1-73 simply because I don't use it enough. I'm sure you'll have great success with the new board. Take care and God bless.

Bill, you may want to check your global EQ settings, which can make a huge difference with the 950 and 970.

Another thought, the position of the L1 compact in relation to hard surfaces behind you also has a bearing on the lows - anything closer than three feet to a wall will do this.

Donny, there are no EQ settings on the Bose L1 Compact, however, there are on the T1 mixer.

Those controls are only for the mic input, not the keyboard input.

Oh I don't know. It probably wouldn't really accomplish anything I need to do. But I do like new stuff. My current set of Bose Compacts is less than a year old! I would need to sell them.
I did get a good price from Frank on the Mauis!

The compressor is great to have... But, even though it's a master comp, the USB audio player does not run through it. At least, I haven't had to push it on the WAV/MP3 side of the 970.

I do like using the 1/4" adapter to bypass the speakers. I did shut them off in function mode but when I went to teach a voice lesson after a gig... No sound. Function-Utility-config2-speakers headphone Sw-Exit... 5 button pushes later, got my speakers back. Pull out the adapter, one move and no buttons.

Also, if I'm at the gig and want to flip on the speakers, pull out the adapter works the best.
