Love how easy Ed Diaz & others demonstrates how to create a multitrack song.. Nice goto sounds, Organs, drawbars, Piano, EPiano, Synth, Strings, etc,.. easy to edit on the fly also,....if you don't need styles and play with SMF or custom backing tracks, loops, this is a nice lightweight only 12Lbs powerful KB to gig with for sure,.. at a great price too..iPad friendly. Ac or battery too.

Still kickin the idea of getting one of these or another Bk9. Did my first live Band Gig last night with the BK9 and it was great. All my Registrations were Preset so navigation was just choose the Preformance List I wanted and hit the Favorites button to change sounds. Played Organ and Piano with LH Bass through my JBL 515's and they sounded fine. No need for a dedicated Keyboard / Bass amp for this situation I'm thinking when the new single manuel Crumar Mojo, the #1 Hammond Clone for this week, becomes available some VR09's will pop up on Ebay.

I think you have missed two of my recent posts, as you said elsewhere that the Bk7m was discontinued and the BK-9 will be. In fact, the 'Discontinued' note at the Bk-7m on roland.com has been removed, and it's still available. But the BK-9 is no more available at least from Roland Germany and probably anywhere, last units are just being sold from the shelves.

Nice to hear that you are playing gigs with other LIVE musicians ... would like to hear more about the gig ...
I played a dinner - dance last night with the sax player from the band we had in NY ... we - and the audience of about 150 people ages 35ish to 70 years - had a great time ... I just wish he and I lived closer to each other, but he is in NJ and I'm in RI ...

Yes Tony, it was a treat to play live with other musicians. Saw an ad on Craigslist for a keyboard player IE: Hammond & Piano, for a BLues Band here in Bluffton SC. I figured why not, could be fun. They had just formed and are based around a really good singer. www.Gregmaynard.com Went to their first gig and was impressed so I applied for the position. As it turns out after that gig the Bass Player left so at my first rehersal there was no bass player. Lead singer/Rhythm guitar, lead guitar, and drummer. I said " let me try doing the Bass " not much for the Left Hand to do when you have two guitars already. LOL! They liked it and last night was the test. People loved the Band and we had a great time. A few speed bumps but that will all work out. Band is called "Royal Blues Machine" Its on Facebook. Place we played was called "Tail Gators" ( great name for a place in the Lowcountry of SC ) 10 minutes from my house and gig was only 3 hours. I'm also doing the OMB thing with the Styles / SMF's on the BK9 so things are moving along.

Incredible board... for the price. The synthesizer inside this thing is also very powerfull And where Roland shines is their ipad apps for these instruments
Why doesnt Roland get the credit it deserves?

Roland may not be geting the credit because its viewed mostly as a Hammond Clone and there are better ones out there. Hammond, Nord, and now new King of the Clones the Crumar Mojo. But the price, weight, and versatility are where this board shines. And Roland is selling a ton of them. Thats why I'm waiting till one of the organ purists moves on to the next greatest thing and sells his VR09. Or a BK9, whichever pops up first for a good deal.

The version 1.03 update for the VR-09 adds 10 new electric piano sounds including SA and FM electric pianos which are based on waveforms from the RD-800 digital piano and the FA-series workstation. It also gives you waveforms from the highly-acclaimed SRX-12 Classic EPs expansion board and the original V-Combo, the VR-760. You even get 15 synth sounds from the popular Synth Legends library for INTEGRA-7 on the Axial site.
Since I started this thread I have received many honest replies privately from players who are actually gigging with the Roland V-Combo VR09 and absolutely love it,..that's good news right from the trenches,...Most say it's like a lightweight Swiss Army Knife with awesome sounds and versatility features, well worth the money..
It's in the house, as usual Frank at Audioworks is THE BEST!! if you need gear give him a call first thing he'll do you right every time! ...I'll start out by saying the Roland VR09 keybed action is better then my S970 right off the bat,..been playing it for about an hour and it's really sounding amazing.. Organs,Pianos, Synths & more are Super, exploring a bit here & there don't have that much time, but I'm very happy so far, cant wait to take it out on a gig,..... I Picked it up and OMG 12 lbs really? Loaded a few Mp3 backing tracks on a USB stick and they played perfectly & easy to play along with as was my intention, and switch sounds all right on deck for easy access,...it's real easy to control all sounds, drawbars, & perimeters in real time,...the Leslie has a lot of rotary girth on/off brings back my Hammond B3 days so much wow!..I was happy that the new ver. 1.03 was already inside too,..to be continued.

Congrats Donny. How are you planing on using it? As far as I can tell it has no styles only drums. Correct? Are you using it as a stand alone or with the 970, or? Enjoy Eric
Eric thanx, There is life "after styles" lol... I plan to use it playing & singing against my custom backing tracks, many were created using the S970 & as a back up to my S970. I'll record with iut to for certain projects, Also use it when I play with other people it's a great 12lb lightweight powerhouse performance KB with great sounds...
I'll tell you it sounds great and it's a real pleasure to play ...everything is right on deck situated in logical order and very easy to access playing live...drawbars, tweaks, perimeters, fx, comp, tone, mfx, resonance, attack, percussion, chorus, etc, sounds, drums, all in separate banks with buttons,...and the D beam can be assigned to do all sorts of things. Also even though it's only 12lbs all the buttons, keys, joystick, have a nice quality sturdy rugged feel. The display is small but it's very bright, adjustable, and legible to read. The Looper feature is very kool too, you can really build up & record phrases to use in your DAW easily...or just as a recording scratch pad for muiltitrack ideas..drum patterns are very usable also to play along with lets say a split Lh bass/piano etc,.. the VR09 leslie sim is much better then my Yamaha s970 it's got a set of balls when you throw it on baby!

I have a ?? about the looper -- is it possible to capture a groove from MP3 backing track and use that as the basis for a loop? in other words, can you.... play one of your custom backing tracks via the USB thumb drive record it into the looper then use the keyboard to add additional layers?
thanks and thanks for all those demos. I'm interested in this board, really miss the Roland EPs....
anyone know the answer to this question? really curious! thanks....
The VR-09 gives you about 20 seconds of stereo sampling time to lay down each pass: bass line, drum figure, synth riff, and whatever else, and you can save the results to a USB stick. You can also use the USB connection to record your performances in audio or MIDI form and play back audio files to solo over.
VR-09: There’s no MIDI sequencer or sampler on the VR-09; however, there is an audio looper that allows for loops up to 20 seconds long and unlimited overdubs. The looper is a very expressive tool and can add an interesting dynamic to your live performances. It can even be controlled by a foot switch.

right, thanks. it sounds like it's not possible to introduce mp3 rhythm loops into the looper -- the way I read the manual, you either start with the onboard rhythms or build from scratch using a drum kit.
it would be great to import a drum loop (made on a PSR or whatever) and then add to that by layering via the looper....
