I have both Kronos and PA4x on display at my store, and I got to tell you , other than the very complex and out there synth sounds, the PA4x sounds more musical to me than the Kronos, I get this very digital sterile sound from the Kronos, where the PA4x is just "lo-fi" enough to make it more warm to me?
Not sure if that makes sense to anyone That's the exact conclusion I came to just by listening to many YouTube videos. I imagine the effect is even more pronounced live. There's something very realistic-sounding about the Pa4X, even compared to the Tyros 5. Yes, the Tyros has some very realistic, polished and precise solo sounds, but as you said, the Pa4X is a little "Lo-Fi", and I believe this may be the reason it sounds so good. In real life, acoustic instruments aren't as polished, hence sterile, as the voices in the Tyros, and I've always considered Yamaha the best, so this is quite an admission. The Pa4X's styles also sound less robotic. This has to do with timing. Maybe, future Yamaha models can have a knob that allows for a slightly irregular beat, just the way a person keeps time. I know that the Tyros 5 has this for its Ensemble feature, but it would be nice to also have it for its styles. Of course, if I had the money, I'd get both!
