Blake always does a down to Earth demo! The PSR-S970 is a great buy and value for the money. Great weight! It's serving all its purposes for my needs!

Buy a higher seat, Donny and stop sitting in those facility chairs, or just lower the keyboard a tad. wink

Well, yes it is great and I enjoyed having it, BUT he is demonstrating how much better the audio drum styles sound than the midi styles, and they do. Problem is there are 40 of them. More than half I couldn't use. A lot of them seem to be song-specific. They make you want the good drums sounds on everything, but there just aren't enough for that.
I wish they would either go to primarily audio drums, as Ketron has done for many years, or concentrate on making the midi drums better, as Korg, Roland and Ketron have done for many years.
Yes, great value for the dollar. It depends on what you want to hear I suppose.
Guitars are unsurpassed, I must say, although I love the new ones on PA4X too.
Still no touch screen, and that's almost unforgivable today.

I agree, too, but you have to consider that in the 1990s it was even more necessary as the displays had much less contrast compared to today. But it is a stupid way to cut costs.

contrast isn't the issue then or now, ....when your on stage every day and there are overhead lights casting blinding display glare down you cant see hardly anything....every room has different lighting the only thing that will work and that the player can adjust to the situation is a TILT Display with different positions to combat that glare...

Hey Donny, how about using a detachable hood until a tilt screen model comes along. You could make it with a piece of black, construction paper and keep in inside your keyboard case pocket until it's needed. Or, you could Velcro the back edge of the screen to the keyboard and just fold it down when the keyboard goes in the case. Not a big deal to make or install.

I was talking Yamaha arrangers specifically....

Its one of those things (keybed, tilting screen, sa2 voices, organ world, ensemble voices) that yamaha uses to try and make people buy the tyros...

I have the hood already as shown doesnt work its a combination of the screen glare and the sitting Height angle also, only a tilt will answer these failures..why should I change my comfortably....it's a common problem with a simple solution..

Pa4x is definitely a solution,an expensive one at that, as is the Tyros5,..same reason I couldn't use the KORG Pa900 also which is worse then the S970 in visibility.....

i can see your problem... maybe if you set the s970 at a slight angle, it would improve your vissibillity?

oh and have a look at the Casio MZ-X500 that one just has its whole front panel at a nice angle for improved reach and visibillity. (just kidding)

personally i am very happy with the tilting screen on the Tyros5 since its on the top position, thats a must have. I do feel your pain, with 970 having bad vissibillity and Tyros being to heavy to move around. nad there is no high end arranger thats both light and has a tilting screen...

and sad thing.... i dont see Yamaha making a PSR with tilting screen nor a much lighter Tyros.

confused1 ... that has me confused Donny ... I velcroed (is that a word??? wink ) an approx 1" thick board covered with speaker carpet to the bottom of the Pa900 to give it a slight angle ... even when set up at home where I use a standard folding chair (very low level) when practicing or editing styles etc. the sight angle is fine for me ...
But I still agree all KBs should have a tilt screen ...

lets recap here in the pic is when I tried to raise the Pa900 remember that scenario......? eek2
at almost 4 inches high it was a nightmare at best......the resolution on the Pa900 is horrible and in no way as good as the S970...I not only sit very low but with the attached mic boom extended I also sit way back these two angles and the glare off the screen from ceiling lights, or what have you contribute to the problem of not being able to view the display on stage well.....
TILT SCREEN PLEASE!!!

Donny, Tilt screen , YES !!!
Except that your mic is on the opposite side, your KB setup in the pics looks just like mine ...
From MY experience, I think your evaluation of the Pa900 screen as "horrible" is overkill ... granted, I don't have a S970 to compare it to, but as I said, my experience with the Pa900 has been fine with the rear of the board raised just about an inch, and yes, when I am gigging I sit higher than you ... of course there is a problem in direct sunlight, but that happens with any board ...

One would think that after all this time SOMEONE would have come up with a way to see ANY screen - phone, tablet, KB, whatever, in any kind of light ...

I am just glad that we both have KBs we are happy with - at least to some extent... wink
