Hi John,
Thanks for sending your latest files. Like Frank Bez, I was really impressed with your arrangement of St. Louis Blues. As a former trombonist, I am particularly fond of that number because I played it often in bands. It was a great brass number. Your clever use of backgrounds and lead voicings is impressive. All of the tunes are well done and I will be listening to them a lot. You play well!

Hi John, Thanks very much for the songs, only just got a chance to play them this evening. They are truly Great - I'm very impressed with some of your edited sounds as I said before. Anyone reading this, who hasn't got them yet, do yourself a favour and send John an email.

Hi Scott, To date I've never converted to mp3, but Bill has kindly mailed me some useful information. I will have a go some time, but don't hold your breath - unless you're related to Bill's saxophonist

Hi Scott - You're at it again ! OK Since it's your birthday, I'll convert a couple of John's songs (with his permission of course) to MP3 for you. If it's OK with John, I'll do it this weekend. Did you manage to blow out all your candles in one breath? If not, send for me for your next cake - as you know, I've got lot's

Hey Bill, I have always heard that about drummers. Is that why you became a keyboard player, cause it takes less hot air, cause the keyboard has it's own pump :-) Bebop

John, finally got to hear some of your songs today. MANY thanks to all the time and work Bill Norrie put in to convert them to MP3 format. I think the most interesting and unusual of your song renditions are Sleepwalk & St Louis Blues. Your rendition of St Louis Blues brings to my mind the big half time show at a big college football game. I can envision the band marching in formation and then forming different designs & letters on the field. Your treatment of Sleepwalk is real cool too. What instruments did you use? Did you employ the pitch/mod wheel to create the effects or are was this implemented via keyboard aftertouch? Thanks for sharing your music from both across the ocean (Atlantic) and across the US continent to the west California coast.

Hi Scott You just about got it in one........ Way back in the 1950s I saw a US Forces Rifle Drill Team, perform marching & intricate rifle drill (with bayonets fixed) to that rendition of St Louis Blues. It has stuck in my mind all these years and I hope I've reproduced something close to what I heard then. As for the sleepwalk sounds - an e-mail is already winging its way across the big pond. I've already mailed Bill Norrie my thanks for the conversion to mp3, but publically thanks again Bill.

No secrets Tony. I try to keep it simple and play within my own limitations. I try to choose appropriate voicing (flight of the bumblebee is definately not for the Tuba ) and I use Easy Record, so I can listen to what I did wrong. Finally, I just enjoy it. A big thank-you to everyone for their kind comments

Thank you John for the music. You did a beautiful job. I particularly liked Dream of Olwen. I never heard of that song before. Is that the complete title? The reason I ask, I am going to get the sheetmusic for it. Also enjoyed Smoke Gets in Your Eyes. All the songs were great. I've had the songs for a while and I just listened to it today and enjoyed every minute and wanted to let you know that. Some day I will have songs to share also. Thanks again.

Thanks for the kind words. The Title of the piece is 'The Dream of Olwen' and was composed by Charles Williams and used as the theme music to the film 'While I Live' which was showing around the 1950's. It is a lovely melody and I hope you can get hold of a copy. If not, let me know as I have a very old, well-worn copy which I could photostat and send by snail mail
As a KN6500 owner, and a new member here (have not used a bulletin board before) I am most interested in your collection that has been so highly praised. Bill Johnson, Australia.

Hi Bill, Welcome to the Forum. A selection of tunes is already heading 'Down Under' as I type. If you look down the postings you will find other songs & styles available from other forum members, which I'm sure you will enjoy.
