Rule #1 - NEVER, EVER use a cheap mic. Gary What about the Sampson some of you use?

I think Samson makes a fine mic and the prices are quite good. I often use Q8 for my vocals. It has slightly more handling noise than Sennheiser, but is warmer. Senn 945 is crisper and probably more sonically accurate, but I'm actually pleased with both of them. I use Samson R22s for throwaway mics, as mentioned, for unknown guests. They are rugged, have switches, and very much sound like Shure SM58. You do have to roll off low end on most singers. When I got the Samson Q8, I "retired" the Q7, and now use it for more accomplished guest singers and friends.
