I’m pretty sure that this topic has been discussed before; I’ve seen several good videos of solo musicians. I’m looking for recommendations for a video cam that has decent sound reproduction as well a good video. Further, suggestions for shooting vids when you are performing as a solo, where and how to set up, start and stop, battery power versus AC etc. Thanks. Ciao, Jerry

If you can find a Kodak Z18, I highly recommend it. It has stereo line inputs in addition to built in mic. You can get optional remote too.

This one looks interesting at $40. it's a new release for Amazon. Records in stereo and can handle an external mic. Reviews look good.

Thought you wanted video as well. This is audio only.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, I am interested in video as well as decent sound reproduction. I had the Kodak iz8, used it for about 2 gigs and after packing, it walked the 3rd time I used it, so I didn’t have much time to play with it. I used the internal mics and didn’t care for the sound quality.
guitpic1, that is one great looking piece of equipment. May be overkill for me, however.
Just as important to me is how do you set up and control it as a single act, on the job? Do you put it on a tripod aside of you or in the audience? Start it before you begin your performance and edit out the time ‘twix the start of the vid and the start of your performance? Or?
Ciao, Jerry

I never used the internal mics on the Kodak. I always use the line inputs. Sound is perfect and picture excellent.

easier to have someone video your act at different angles with the cam hooked into the mixer audio outs...

Hello Jerry,

Don't know if you are still following this..but you can get some awesome deals on older Canon pro video cams.

The XH A1 that I have can be bought for around $400 and its original price was around $4,500.

Also, I should mention that the XH A1 is analog...it's a DVC tape machine and I still think tape is king when recording and getting a warm sound....especially music.

Of course, it depends on what it is to be used for. Is this going on YouTube or just for your own use?
