Hi
Who enjoys listening to tribute singers.
I think it helps keep their music alive

This really nice young guy does Roy Orbison

Usually, the thing with tribute singers/groups is that no matter how good they are they really highlight how good the ORIGINALS were ...

I agree with Rikki about keeping their music alive, however, I've never been a big fan; mainly because their emphasis seems to be 'coming as close to the original as possible'. I usually prefer to hear a fresh interpretation of a good tune. I do understand the nostalgic value of hearing a well-done copy of the original, though.

Hi Chaz,
you're a musician,though.
I think for the average concert goer like myself, one would want the performer to sound and look as close as possible to the original.

https://youtu.be/7V4qLV7sk-Y

Actually met him , he was staying with friends across the road whilst on tour.
Lovely guy, had a really nice chat. Don't get to talk about music too often, do was great.
Wouldn't have recognised him, looks so different in real life.

Donny.....

Not for nothing, but, vocally, these guys don't sound anything like the Beatles. They might dress like them, play like them, and do spot-on recreations of the arrangements, but......vocally.....they're a bit off. No....they're a lot off. I've heard better "Paul" McCartney's at our local Karaoke club!

In all fairness, I'm a huge Beatles fan and I've listened to their records many times over the years. No cover band will ever do them justice!

A few weeks ago I met a friend at one of the street festivals where a band was playing. I'm always interested in how non-musicians (audience, etc) are reacting to what they're hearing. I asked my friend because I already decided they were "musically challenged." My friend said he "thought they were great." With my curiosity aroused, I pressed him further......"what about their performance did you like?" Answer: "You're listening to them as a musician......I know nothing about how to play an instrument....I'M just listening to the songs they're playing and each one brings back a memory for me."

That was a blockbuster for me. He couldn't have explained that any better.......how a non-instrument playing audience hears music. They don't hear the bad musicianship, out-of-tune singing, cheapo crackly speakers etc. They just hear the song itself! That to me is why cover bands are so appreciated....when they're right on the money!

Hi. Mark,
Yes, one goes for the experience.

Bit off topic, but about 15 years ago, hubby took me to a concert . It was a bunch of famous English bands from the 60's. The real ones , not tribute bands. By this time they were past their prime, and a tad off key, but for me the concert was fabulous. Took me back to my teens.

p.s.
I'm not a musician, just a crazy hobbyist. Haha

That may be true as NO ONE could ever come close to the Beatles...but in reality lots of people paid good money to go see them perform they got paid very well for their recreation and tributes and in the end that's all that matters.

No, I disagree......that's NOT all that matters. Good music has been diluted so badly that people have been trained to except mediocrity......everywhere, not just music. But bringing it back to music, "all that BAD music needs to succeed, is for people to reject and accept GOOD music. Pretty soon we'll be dumbed down to accepting a monkey, sitting on the back of a Shetland pony and playing Hip-Hop on a harp. I've already noticed the decline in musicianship with local bands. And they play poorly because they're allowed to play poorly. One day folks are going to say to themselves.....I don't know, I just paid $100 to see a concert and I still feel "empty" inside!

Pray tell.........would you agree that almost everyone with any common sense would agree that drinking a can of coke 3x a day and every day, driving while texting, eating poisoned mushrooms would be bad for you. Today's music is meant to inflame your emotions, not soothe and temper them (like Lawrence Welk presentations used to). The messages in many of today's songs is there to incite violence with words that cater to the topic of the day (kill pigs, etc) Best way I know of to put out a record and make sure it sells!

You strike me as a person who sits on the sidelines and watches society deteriorate. Something like Nero watching Rome burn while he fiddles.....the only difference being he had a fiddle, not a Yamaha S950!
