I found one of the problems about receiving help is that we give information to others with terms we have become familiar with. The person who played a Yamaha or Technics for many years approaches a Korg keyboard not understanding; he needs help at his level.

Learning the OS of a Korg keyboard is not an easy task. Korg thinks differently – the reason; there are more options. Once learned it is a piece of cake.

I posted a step-be-step on how to change instruments and instrument names in SongBook. The next step would be to learn how to change the STS instrument settings (four of them) in the factory styles. When you select a factory style it automatically selects the four STS instruments; they can be changed. Time allows I will post the steps needed.

John, Don and others,

Many thanks to you all for all the help...very much appreciated.

I have downloaded the manual(rtfm :)) to my iPad and do review that pretty regularly.

I'm hoping that by next spring I have a pretty good handle on this.

Tx again all.

confused1 Rog is the KORG OS that difficult to learn?
Personally I dislike KORGS "Folder system" of doing things but as with all of them under pressure I adapted and managed to learn them all,...I still find Ketron the most difficult out of them all.

Coming from the briliant Technics OS (during many years) I've found that convert to Ketron, Korg MA and then Yamaha was a kind of nightmare.
But, at the end I think it's more the willing to learn and adapt rather than the difficulty.
Imagine if there all that sudden was only a totally new OS whatever keyboard we bougt? Would that be a reason enough to just hold on to the "old" we have, or would we jump on board to the future?

Nowadays I'm not digging too much into all technical "goodies", but mostly find a suitable (hopefully good sounding) style and play whatever comes to my mind.
No gigging and just play as a hobby at home is great, and I think it won't be too difficult to get started withe the PA4X, whenever it will be... smile

I'm quite familiar with the OS systems of all the top arrangers. Each has its weaknesses and strengths. I think Korg is easiest, not because I have one but because of the ease of quickly accessing things.
I did enjoy the Roland system quite a bit, but didn't like having all the external files in one big folder. Great that Roland does a great job guessing at the chords in midi files, and the Makeup tools and such was very nice.
Technics has totally changed from its earlier system and is much easier and better now, but they sure do some things "funny".
I've never been a fan of Yamaha's OS, although I know it inside out. Too much stuff is just not done logically. I do appreciate the ease of accessing external styles though.

Korg's Songbook/Setlist is just the best for live play. I like it better than Yamaha's registration system....but they are two different animals altogether.

I always like KETRON Midjay pro OS as you can Play & mix all formats simultaneously sty,smf,mp3,wav,fx, which is awesome all controlled with separate sliders,...try that with any other arranger. Not to mention it sounds incredible live ..

That's totally doable on PA4X. Just save to Songbook. And you have two full rows of programmable sliders if you need more volume controls.

Don can you play a style and a smf or mp3 at the same time with slider control on Pa4x also? I Like what the PA4x can achieve but
I am going in a different direction musically now and have to retool my gear a bit for my needs,..
