What prompted you to trade the KN7000 and buy the Tyros? I find the KN7000 has a far superior sequencer (Yamaha's sequencer is a joke), more intuitive user interface, better storage options (SD), slide show capabilities, better sounds overall, and sound expansion capabilites which the Tyros lacks. In addition the KN's sound edit capabilities far exceed those of the Tyros (even the KN5000, 6000, and 6500 have better sound editing capabilities). Add the fact that the KN7000 has a built in sound system that sounds wonderful, and overall the KN7000 just represents a much better value than Tyros.

I am a former Yamaha 9000 Pro owner and now having played and used the Technics KN7000, I can't imagine buying a Tyros. The only thing the KN7000 lacks that I would like it to have is a sampler. A 76 or 88 key KN7000 would be great! The 7000's incredible array of sounds and the extensive ability to edit those sounds makes up for it though.

Some people feel the Tyros Megavoices make the Tyros special but quite frankly, the Megavoices aren't all that great. I liked my 9000 Pro much better than I do Tyros and I'm sure many 9000 Pro owners would agree.

If money were no object I'd buy a Wersi Abacus Duo Pro but barring that, the KN7000 is my best option. I hope to join the KN7000 users list but won't make any buying decisions until after NAMM next week. Hopefully NAMM will bring the next best keyboard but I won't hold my breath.

Hi All, thanks for the feedback: in no specific order:
I find the backings are more varied and realistic especially the type of music I play, 1920’s,/60’s, Latin and the like. The song bank, with 1,893 songs ready set up to go is worth it in itself, again I found these very, very realistic. My wife was taken with this, one of the reasons I bought it, and said she would play it, she is a pianist, some what rusty, and has never bothered with any other boards,( or organs) we have owned. I found it easy to understand, remember I only really had 2/3 hours at it. Sequencer I only use for Easy record, I had never used it at all until 20 for 1 came along, thanks Bill, so it is more than adequate for me. Storage options, well, I will buy a 41.2 GB hard drive for about £55, ( approx. 85/90$), I think that would cost more, much more, converted to SD Cards!!! While I will not use the vocaliser, we tried it with an average singer, and the results almost made me want to try, any settings can be stored in panel memories along with sounds etc. We compared this with a £200 (310$) external unit and the results were favourable, another plus. The coloured keys are a bit garish, but leave you in no doubt as to the state of the set up. I read about problems with the USB but I encountered this with the 7000, (there was a severe lack of reading)! But I don’t anticipate making a lot of use of it. A lot of people buying boards may not own a computer, so it is not a necessity.
I am sure there are more sound edit capabilities than I would need. I have not ordered the speakers; I use a Bang & Olufsen HI Fi System, which is vastly superior to any built in speakers on any board, or most amp. systems, so that was not an issue. I would think the learning curve is much steeper, but I have been reading for over 60 years, and still make a point of reading something every day to keep my hand in, so that is no problem!
A friend owns a 9000, he had an 8000 previously, and I would not have personally bought any of them, he is in the process of changing it for a Tyros.
I hear a world of difference between them, deaf as I am!!
Ensnareyou, you have obviously have heard/seen/played a Tyros, did you try the 9000 via the Tyros spkrs. or use a common denominator for comparison, I did.
Grandpa, I’ve shot for about 30 years, excellent marksman, and I hit what I aim at, no accidental discharges, although the term now is unauthorised discharge!!

OK Walter, It looks like you've found the ideal Keyboard for yourself and Jean and none can say you are wrong in your choice. We must all make our own mind up as to what we want in an instrument. After much deliberation, Scottyee went the same route as you but for different reasons. I'm sure you will enjoy your time with the Tyros and it's really good to know that Jean will finally be sharing the experience first hand.

Hi Walter,

I appreciated your very practical reasoning for buying the Tyros and your matter-of-fact, no nonsense explanation of those reasons. Bill Norrie is right to point out that Scott Yee also bought the Tyros, but for different reasons. It is those individual reasons that always determine what we buy. Frankly, if I play a Tyros one day and find I prefer it to my KN, I will not hesitate to buy one. I don't owe Technics any loyalty. Loyalty is not involved. Buying a keyboard is quite simply nothing more than a business transaction based on individual preference. If Technics cannot meet my needs when I am ready for another board, I'll buy from another manufacturer who produces a board that does meet my needs. Simple!
