Truth is, in my mind I've made the switch to my PA 4X. I still have my Yammie S970 which I'm guessing won't see action until perhaps our Christmas show and then I'm not sure.

I don't have to sell my S970 but it would sure take a bit of dusting off to start using it again.

Thoughts?

By the way.

Went to help out the person who bought my Tyros 4. Perhaps my imagination but I didn't think my former Tyros Keybed had the solidity and feel of my PA 4X.

Bachus ... that is very true, but if you are going to have a back up, shouldn't it be the same as your primary board? ... or at least the same brand?

guitpic ... Perhaps you should try to sell the S970 and get a used Pa900 ... at least the OS would be very similar and you might be able to load some of your Pa4X stuff right into the pa900 ...

I need a back up board like I need a hole in the head. I have Pa3x and 4x, but I'm with Tony better to keep the same brand.

P.S. Tony great to have met up with you for lunch! That's a plus for living in a small state none of your friends in state are more than a 40 minute drive away. smile

Hi ,
If you have absolutely no use for it, possibly the sooner you sell it the better.

Coming from someone whose still got their last 2 Korgs. Haha

Pa800 probably not worth much anymore. Just never quite got round to it.
Pa3x I'm still fiddling round with.

Tx all.

Good points

I did think of getting a PA 900 and then decided not to. When I was gigging with my Tyros, i always had a PSR backup....never used it. I'm guessing one keyboard is plenty.

But then, so is one guitar and I have several of those and I don't even play guitar much anymore.

I have a S970 and a Pa4X and thought about the same question. I also have the Audya, which is a great board, but a little heavier than the Yammy, which is why I bought it. My reasoning was that the S970 is great for certain quieter jobs, and I would leave my Audya home. But now, I bought the Korg, which does it all and easy to transport. OOH, the Yamaha is different in some good ways.

Oh Hell, I guess I will keep them all, as the amount of money I would get for it isn't going to make any difference in my life.

S970 is a very very nice keyboard! I am in the same predicament....

Bernie - You da Man! That's a great attitude! I have PA900, S970 and I would love to get PA4X.... Hmmmmmm - have to agree that when you sell 'em off you risk losing more than you think should the board get damaged in shipping....

Steve - Have a great flight! And... remember...

"Please make sure your seat back and tray table is in the full upright position. Make sure your seat belt is securely fastened and all carry-on luggage is stowed underneath the seat in front of you or in the overhead bins. Please turn off all electronic devices until you are safely parked at the gate. The flight attendants are currently passing through the cabin to pick up any remaining cups and glasses. "

Just sayin'

Have fun y'all!

Hi Bernie,
Bit like myself, I kept the pa800 too long, now not worth much.
Pa3x , I 'm still fiddling round with.
PSR s950 I use to do midifiles for my conversions. Probably not worth all that much anymore anyway.

Bit like a keyboard museum upstairs. Haha

Can't really be bothered with the hassle of shipping.
If we still lived in Sydney , be a pick up job, but nobody is going to drive 2 or 3 hrs to the country, to pick up a keyboard that's only worth a few hundred dollars.

I carried a spare keyboard, a duplicate PSR 3000, in the van for 10 years - It never came out of the case. When I purchased the S950, I ended up giving my primary 3000 to my son. I still have the other 3000, sitting in the office beneath a dust cover.

Total failures of a modern, arranger keyboard are as rare as hen's teeth. The only failures I ever seen were keypad and power supply failures. I always carried a spare power supply and still have a couple sets of keypads.

If you carry a single keyboard, no backup board, at least carry a netbook or laptop so you can DJ in the event of a keyboard failure at a planned event such as a wedding or large, private party. For NH jobs, the AD will usually be more than happy to reschedule the job for a later date.

Good luck,

Gary cool

Randy, Thank you MR. Flight Attendant smile smile

Flight was great it's normally a 2 hour 45 minute flight Providence to Orlando. This flight only took 2 hours 9 minutes.

It has been cooler in Florida than it has in Maryland this summer. It's 12:30 PM and the current temperature is 94 in the shade. It will easily hit 100 degrees f here today with the humidity of about 65 percent - just like stepping into a steam bath.

I was out on the boat for the past three days, but came home early because of the excessive heat and code red air pollution alert, which is not at all good for folks with bad lungs. Think I'll spend the day in the office today and do some paperwork that I've been neglecting.

All the best,

Gary cool

Gary - you're right - FL has been great this summer.... and with all the rain we have gotten I believe we will have another pretty Fall season. Trees here can get beautiful in the Fall given the right circumstances.

Enjoy avoiding the heat and have a couple nips of Kickapoo Joy Juice for us! smile

Guys - thanks for the kind words! Well, I am about to quit my "day job" and become an arranger addict and then I will be able to spend more time on this great forum! I will get my first Social Security check next Wednesday.... hmmmmm PA4X? HA HA! Maybe so! Would be a great retirement start!

I did post an ad for my PA900 on Craigslist but in this neck of the woods, an arranger keyboard is as rare as King Tut's Scepter! But you never know...there may be a musical archeologist in the neighborhood.....

Hi Stephen,
Definately wasn't those.
Goes back a while, think we discovered we both watch the same car shows and car auctions on tv ( Foxtel , over )
I think you had just been to a show recently.

Either way, great shots.

Update:

Brought out my S970 for a small gig yesterday. Older folks who like bluegrass gospel. The S970 styles(bluegrass country) and voices(dobro/lap steel) are yet unmatched by my PA 4X.

I'd love to be able to reproduce those S970 styles/voices on my 4X....especially the Hawaiian lap steel...ain't nothing close on the 4X. The 4X editing system is pretty versatile...maybe I'll figure something out.

My 4X will still see the majority of my gigs. But I'm not getting rid of my S970 just yet.

I will say though that it seemed like I was playing a toy keyboard(S970 Keybed) after using the 4X.

... been saying that for YEARS. If Yamaha used their Tyros keybeds on the PSR series, they wouldn't sell any Tyros'.

I'd love to be able to reproduce those S970 styles/voices on my 4X....especially the Hawaiian lap steel...ain't nothing close on the 4X. The 4X editing system is pretty versatile...maybe I'll figure something out.

My 4X will still see the majority of my gigs. But I'm not getting rid of my S970 just yet.

what have you done on the 4x to edit sounds to try to recreate its Hawaiian guitars to what you need...the 4x is a deep instrument and you can certainly make things work in your favor.
My S970 is gone & I'm not looking back at all.

Hi
I've converted a few of the PSR styles over the years.
Some of the older styles convert quite well, used to be able to do them in my old XG works program from a midifile of the style. Used to be as simple as changing the .sty into .mid
and I had the midifile I required. Then did the editing required.

Unfortunately the newer ones are a bit more difficult.
Have to record the midifile I require in my s950.
The guitar tracks are more complex , the mega voices and now the audio drums.
Done a couple so far from my s950.

Was there any particular style you were using?

There is some basic sound editing in
Style play mode
Menu
Track controls
Sound edit,
Came across it when I was looking for a drum editor.

You must have sounds I don't have in my s950 .
Is it anything like the pedal steel in the GM/XG section of the Korg sound banks?
That one sounds a bit like the pedal steel in my s950.

Rikki,

The bluegrass styles I use are similar to the Country musician styles found on Yamaha musicsoft.

As for steel guitar, my favorite has been the Hawaiian steel voice. I've checked all the guitars in my 4X...nothing close to that Hawaiian steel.

But I'm also just starting to learn how to edit sounds on my 4X and may get something close worked out.

Tx for the suggestions.

Hi Rog,
don't forget you can also load samples, but that may be for a future date.

So you're referring to 3rd party styles? not factory.
that's where yammie shines.

I just happened to upload a country ballad I did quite some time back, may or may not be of any use.

Don,

I'm just starting to learn the editing system on the PA 4X. I edit the instruments in styles quite regularly. However editing sounds to get what I want is a bit more tricky. I don't know if there is a video or discussion on this?

The slide steel sound is my winter project.
