I have a friend who does some NH/AL gigs, playing guitar and singing ... he has been using his Fender Twin Reverb amp for both guitar with backing tracks and vocals... He wants to 'lighten his load' as the Fender weighs a TON, and improve the sound quality if the backing tracks and vocals ... He is looking at possibly a lighter amp for the guitar and a powered speaker for the backing tracks and vocals, without spending a LOT of money ... Both would need Line Outs so he could hook into other powered speakers for the rare larger gigs... Most of the gigs he plays are 100 people or less ...

Any suggestions ?

There are lots of small, guitar amps that could easily handle these jobs. He will still need a mixer with effects, though, for the vocals.

Quite a few of the guitar amps have built in effects ... the concern is to be able to eq the guitar, backing tracks and vocals differently, so I think a small mixer might be a help ...
Would still like to hear from any of the members who have had experience with some guitar amps ...

Hi Tony, why not a Fishman soloamp. Of note is that they have come out with a new model. I have not checked it out thoroughly but the one I have is fine and it's several years old. Believe me, this system has far superior guitar/vocal sound than a Fender amp. If you need more than two channels, and perhaps you do from what you have said, he can use a mixer.

BTW, the Fishman Soloamp is a line array system.

Bill, as I recall the Fishman is excellent for guitar and vocals, but lacking in bass response if you wanted to reproduce a bass guitar. Maybe I'm remembering wrong; I'm pretty old now.

I use one of these for small gig's, works well, small and light.

I used a Fender Twin Reverb for many years. Great for guitar, not good for voice. My set up for guitar and voice is:

Bose Compact
TC Helicon Live

Voice through TC Helicon Live into the vocal channel, sounds fantastic. Guitar in the second channel does the job very well. I would never use the Bose just as a guitar amp.
