Probably been discussed before but I'm looking for some decent headphones for my BK9 and FP90. I'd like something that won't color the sound so when I do some editing and EQing it will sound the same thru my PA.
I have an old pair of AKG K240 but they put out very little volume. I also have a cheapo set I bought when I believe it was Don posted about the Stupid Deal of the Day a while back. They're louder but they're not mcu better than cheap ear buds.
So what do you guys use ??

I have used the Sennheiser HD280s for some time. The best I have ever used.

Thanks for the replies. I've been doing some research and it comes down to the Sony MDR7506 which seems to be an industry standard and the Sennheiser HD280 which you guys like a lot.

+1 for the Sony. I've had 5-6 over the years in various studios.

Thanks for the tip. I was just about to go for the Sennheisers when i read your post. checked in to the forum to see if there were any more recommendations.
I'm guessing a $200 sets got to be better than a $100 set. They do go for $199 on other sites. Called MFriend and I can return and trade for the Sennheisers if I don't like them so I took a shot.
Thanks to everyone else too for your info. I appreciate the help.

Bill......when it came headphone time for me, I too wanted something that "doesn't color the sound." I bought the Sony MDR-7506 headphones (extremely dry) at Sam Ash for $100. When they eventually broke, I thought I'd try something different this time around. Bought a pair of Audio-Technica (on recommendation) but way too heavy to wear. Returned them and tried the Sennheiser 280's....too much coloring. I ended up with another pair of........Sony MDR-7506 headphones. Can't go wrong for the price. BTW....I tried the higher priced Sony's and still went for the 7506.

Hi Bill and fellow "thread-weavers:"

Thanks for posting this topic because I spend hours using my headphones with the speakers turned off to allow my wife to retain her sanity. Wearability becomes a big factor to me, particularly "coolness" because sweaty ears can become a real annoyance when you are attempting to belt out a song recording.

I'm using a cheap set of AKG Headphones and believe I pay a heavy price for the poor "monitoring" factor they provide. They are reasonably cool after being used a couple of hours. I don't use "tracks" in the traditional sense when recording. (The keyboard's different instruments plus multi-pads are active if selected, during the entire live session.) No "mix-down" required. True, it may take me several recordings to get things sounding the way I want... but to me, it is a much simpler recording process. (My digital recorder has the capability of doing recordings either way.)

Do any of you experience the need for cooler headphones? I know you probably don't use them when performing... but I don't perform... I only record my original songs.

Thanks for any recommendations. ----Dave Rice

Bill,

Glad you saw the post in time. In the past I've asked Guitar Center to match the SD Day, and they do. Makes returns locally much easier.

Regards,

Jerry
