My God, can she sing! She improvises better than most instrument players can do. You never know what she's going to do in any given measure.......keeps you on your toes, and.......VERY interested in where her musical thoughts are headed for in any given tune.

I very rarely listen to a complete recording of anyone, much less more than one song. But, with her I can listen over and over again. Not just the improvisation but the expression that she's all about. Above all, she just plain has a pretty voice.

It's a shame what happened to this incredible bundle of talent. Life really IS not fair!

simply outstanding. My favourite is Fields of Gold, check it out!
Amazing interpretation which gives you gooseberry flesh and listening to which the original by Sting simply fades into oblivion !!!

regards,
John

The Other Side (Duet With Chuck Brown), Live At Blues Alley, Eva By Heart, Songbird, Time After Time, Imagine, American Tune and Method Actor. But tragedy struck on November 2nd, 1996, when she died of melanoma (skin cancer) after a long battle with the disease.

Hi Mark:

Artistry and improvisation to the highest level. She took an "old standard" (Autumn Leaves) and made it new, today and wonderful. Thanks for sharing... and I agree with you... one listen is not enough. ----Dave Rice

We've spoken of her many times on the Forum and it never gets old. Why she never made the big spotlight while alive is such a shame. Who knows , maybe that would of tainted her incredible talent.
Like DNJ I could listen to "Rainbow" every day and never tire of it.

Loved her. One of my favorites is an old so-called 'Negro Spiritual' called Wade in the water. She kills it and the arrangement is about as perfect as it gets. Funny how people like that die young and people like Keith Richards live forever. If there IS a god, he's got quite a sense of humor.

First heard the Ramsey Lewis trio play this one, great tune. Eva does knock it out of the park!

I think about that often. Does anyone know WHY she never made the big splash here in America?

This woman just mesmerizes me. I watched this video about what she was like behind the scenes and in everyday life.

It's interesting right up to the last few minutes where it goes from "interesting" to just "heartbreaking" when it leads up to her last performance in public with "What a Wonderful World." And when she sang you felt like she was singing to you alone, and.......you just lost your best friend.

I can only guess it's because of the crazy fickle "music business"
Who you know, being in the right place, and just stupid luck many times overrule pure talent. Maybe she was too shy or hated all the BS sometimes needed to promote yourself.
I just recently told a girl singer/ songwriter to,look Eva up and listen. I can't think of a better interpreter of a song to learn from.
