Another personal acquaintance killed this week! Troy Lee, as we called him, died in a helicopter crash in New Jersey. His duo, Montgomery/Gentry was scheduled to play this evening. Troy was the son of Lloyd, a colorful restaurateur and owner of the Grapevine, a popular country music venue.

Lloyd was good friends with my music partner, Preston Weber. He would bring Troy Lee to the Ramada Imperial to listen to the group, but had to stand in the dining room behind a big curtain, because Troy was too young to get in.

Later, Troy formed a duo with John Michael Montgomery's brother, Eddie, and they did very well on the country charts as Montgomery/Gentry for about 10 years.
