What about the extra space on the side?!? I know the Japanese like balance... it looks like the left side and the right side are close to equal space.

Leak the specs next.

Balanced outputs?!?
Easy sequencing like the Motif?!?
Lightweight?!?
Polyphony?!?
128 stereo?!? Double engine?!?

Just guesses right now.
I need to touch one... feel one... hear one in person!!

The Korg Pa series manage to contain the same controls on the top surface in both 61- and 76-key models. Shouldn't Yamaha be able to manage that?

I was thinking along the lines of Dnj’s question. I might consider upgrading, if the Genos is nothing more than many new versions of the same old styles, that sound much better than anything previous. I’ll forgo any fancy knobs, sliders, touch screen, and all that stuff. All I need are great styles and sound.

75 keys is a happy medium fopr all...
if you want 61 you'll have to wait for the MOTL Mini Genos 980 wink

I think you are correct and the trend Yamaha might follow. I prefer the 61 note version arranger, but the Genos-76 is shorter in length than the Tyros 5-76, and perhaps close to the same weight. Features and price will help me decide.

Anyway, in regards to the Genos preset styles. The style categories changed somewhat over the Tyros 5 version, some combined or more emphasis on changing trends. Pop, Rock (use to be combined), RetroPop (new), Oldie (now given own category), Dance (no doubt more attention given here), R&B, Entertainer, Country, Jazz (Swing gone, but obviously combined in other categories), Easy Listening (new), Latin, Ballroom, Movie&Show, Classic&Events (new, but World gone), and Trad&Folk.

I would say stop thinking OLD School styles etc, etc,
....and get ready for a sharp learning curve with Genos...
hope they have thought ahead and made some really good instructional videos to help new buyers
the time for change is now. get ready to become an
Arranger KB/DJ artist very soon with this new technology. cool2

For those of you who use your arranger keyboard professionally , you will already know your audience and the music they like and how they like it delivered . If they wanted s dj they would hire a dj . Do what you do and enjoy it . ,you don't have to change what you do because a new keyboard is out .

New features means re-igniting your creative juices, and how do you know what your audiences like if you have never tried anything new on them. (A good musician always moves forward by trying out new ideas not by sticking with the same)

I would say embrace, fondle, or whatever you want to do with the new, but don't trash the old.

We dont know yet....
So far we only seen the 76 key version
And the top pannel interface would not fit on a 61 key ...

But maybe the 61 key has a different layout (altough this is unlikely)

However, an 88 key version would fit nicely (altough highly unlikely from Yamaha)

New ideas are not synonymous with new features . I try new ideas all the time with the same instrument I have been using for the last 10 years . Some of the features on my existing board I have never used or needed to use . You are right though . I good musician does move forward with musical ideas .

I'm now hearing rumors Genos might be going more targeted toward EDM styles mor for popular music intended for dancing to in clubs, typically having a repetitive beat and a synthesized backing track for the younger synth/DJ, etc, crowd,.. & more DJ features with buttons/sliders etc, more modern dance stylings with a small bit of the older conventional styles to keep the Tyros/Psr crowd interested,.......who knows

Monday is Coming.

So was the psr s970....

With the dj styles, live knobs, arpeggiator and more..

Tell us something new... this is the part from the s970the genos will inherit..

Anyway, its an arranger keyboard workstation, it should be fitted to play all types of music from edm to classical, from jazz to hard rock.. nothing new and unexpected here...
